Hi all, I'm mat, and my girlfriend has a C1. I drove it Tuesday night for the 1st time. Here's my little review of it:

It was good fun to drive lol. only a 1l, but compared to other small cars I've drove, it's nippy. Sounds good at about 3.5k, just needs coileys so I can go round corners quicker - not that she will lol. You could actually see the car wobble as you came out of the corner

The amount of body roll it has is unreal. To sort this, I've told her to lower it a little on coilys, but I don't think she will. Would strut braces reduce come of the roll?

Also, are there any common faults we need to be ready for? I.E. Windows failing, Pedal box smashin, gearbox breaking etc etc

BTW. It's a 1L on a 07 plate. Oh, and me and a mate keep telling her to Supercharge it with this: http://www.supercharger-experience.com/toyota_aygo.php

Either that, or trade it next year for the VW Up (rear rear drive baby  )

From what I've read on other forums, and the feel of the car, most of the body roll is due to tyre deformation when cornering. The springs are already fairly firm, and people have posted on the 107 forum to say that the body roll decreases noticeably with lower profile tyres.

However, wider tyres with ruin fuel consumption and make the ride worse, so your girlfriend may well wish to keep it as it is!

I have to say I like it with narrow tyres, if you ignore the body roll and drive smoothly there is already far more grip than you need with only 67bhp ;)

true, and TBH, everything about the car is absolutley fine for the other half. It's just me. Probably wont drive it much in all fairness, but if/when I do, I want to have a bit of "fun" in it without thinking "is it gonna roll over" ;)

If you think a C1 rolls, you should try a 2CV ;)

They had a competition to roll a 2CV, and I think it proved impossible without hitting a kerb! Mine certainly used to lean over a lot, and I had it on 3 wheels several times :D

Seriously, a C1 is going to slide well before it is danger of rolling over on those skinny tyres. The main problem is staying in the seat when driving at those speeds :)

Only major common fault on City bugs at present is door seals leaking.

Its a bit hit or miss due to production, some cars get these drip problems, others never do.

The origional production tequnique we believe was to hit them on with a mallet (i kid you not), thus squashing them on, and the seal was not making a powerfull seal, causing drips getting in on heavy rainfall.

The 08 models onwards no longer use mallets, and do seem to look a bit thicker by at least 2 to 3mm, so maybe are now more water tight.

I gave up myself after trying to get my door seal leaks sorted by dealer twice, and now just rely on silicon grease smeared on the rubber seal for 100% security against leaks.

PS.. Also you might encounter the tailgate outside hinges rattle / squeak, some lubricant on the hinges sort that or use WD40. I spray mine every six months. (these hinges should have been on the inside)

Another possible rattle is from the rear seat belt fixing, there is a writup on here of a solution I used by inserting a rubber washer, that works.

Other than that the car has good japanese reliability, ie aygo engine and gearbox, and is a great wee runner.

lol.

well i only took it for a quick drive, but we're gonna take a trip to Skegness in the next couple of weeks and decided that we'll take hers, with me as the driver. I love my car to bits, but I really wanna see what hers is capeable of and that should be a good run out ;)

Was hoping the Jap aspect of it was gonna come into play. Nice to know it will be reliable and strong ;)
