NUFCGEORGE Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Both tail lights are working, however none of the three brake lights are working. Looking at the owners manual there is not a great deal of information. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance George Quote

Looking at the owners manual there is not a great deal of information. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advanceGeorge first thing to check George is the brake light switch :) this is located at the back/top of the brake pedal, push your seat right back and look under the dash you can't miss it  . make sure the wire connector hasn't come off, if it is has push it back on, then see if your brake lights work. if the switch still has the wire connector on then *you will have to remove the switch*. [remove wire connector first] it's held in it's bracket tightly ! but giving it a 'wiggle' while pulling it, you will be able to pull it out of it's holder. take the switch appart it's only a simple job to do, a small flat screwdriver down the side of the white peice pushing down then levering up will open it up **SEE THE PICTURES YOU'LL SEE THE TWO WHITE BLOCKS WHICH HOLD IT TOGETHER**. the contacts inside get corroded/blacked, thus' stopping it from working, clean the contacts up with a nail file, then put a bit of petrolium jelly on the contacts to stop it from happening again, then put it all back together. connect the wire back up to the switch and manually press the switch, asking for assistance to see if your brake lights are working, are they working ..... good ! ;) you now need to put it back in the holder, there are ridges on the switch, they are there so you can adjust the height of the switch, just push it in [you will hear the clicks] :( you need the switch far enough in so when you press your brake pedal lightly your brake lights come on, you might have to do this several times to get it bang on :P you don't want the switch adjusted so they only come on when you brake hard :o you don't want to be rear ended do you :( you could buy a new switch if you prefer but the last one i purchased was £5 from a dealer  below are two pictures of your switch....... http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/1327/29c91mv8.jpg http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/3995/09871ir1.jpg LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GOT ON and don't let a dealer do it or garage they will rip you off :( regards... ian. * if you get any other problems put them on the xsara column *...... http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citro...hp?showforum=16 Quote

NUFCGEORGE Posted June 21, 2008 Author Posted June 21, 2008 Ian, just finished, it now works eventually! All that was needed was the switch needed adjustment, but your advice was invaluble, I had looked for a switch but not that far up! It was a bit of a tight squeeze, but worth it as I will have saved a few quid. Once again many thanks for the information. Regards George Quote
