scimitargtc Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Now done 3.5k miles in our [new] April 08 1.4HDi - not a patch on previous Xsara 90bhp HDi in terms of power, comfort and perceived longetivity [no topcoat paint in the under bonnet area and spare wheel cell] mpg OKish at 55 but as most is motorway the 3 mpg gain on my 182k Xsara ain't a lot - probably need to upgrade the ECU - insurance not an issue but I want to be sure the change is the correct 1. With complex wiring I'm not even sure I could find the correct unit. When we upgraded our Picasso 2.0HDi with a SUPERCHIP unit I was not overly impressed - yes the engine was smoother but I couldn't really determine a significant performance upgrade ------- So, from owner experience given I will be driving her 24000 miles commuting paid from our own pocket, which tuning aid should we buy................ the ECU seems totally different.. stimulator Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I assume your 1.4HDi is the 70BHP 8V model and not the now defunct 1.4HDI 16V 92BHP model that was replaced with the 1.6HDI 16V 92BHP engine. I tried the 70 one when I bought my first C3 and decided it was underpowered for the job I wanted. So I went for the 92BHP. Quite a revelation after the 70. 3 year later we decided to trade the 90BHP Picasso and went for another C3 . Plumped for the 1.6 this time and boy what a difference. Altough the two cars are both 92BHP, the lkow end torque on the 1.6 is amazing and it's a joy to drive. One question why did you decide on the 1.4? Quote
CE08LDB Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 My Friend is finding his 2008 C3 1.4i 75BHP SX Petrol very sluggish compare to his last 2005 C3 1.4HDi 70BHP Desire and the 1.4HDi did feel more nippy when I was passenger in it than his C3 now. Quote

Hi, I have used a dragon tuning box on my C4, mainly to help with economy rather than extra power which my 2.0HDI (136bhp) doesn't need. What the box does is it intercepts the pulses to the injectors and modifies it, thus if you want more power, longer pulse, less power shorter pulse. My cars economy is wooful on anything but long runs, so the economy mode helps. It is easy to connect and disconnect should you sell the car or if still under warranty, remove for servicing. First check out good old ebay, worth a look. Terry <_< Quote
scimitargtc Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 Bought the 1.4 on purchase price/mpg consideration alone -- have worked out I've gone from a 1298cc car in 1977 thru 1256, 1372, 1598, 1995, 2995, 1900, 2395, 1995, 2110 and now the 1.4 - makes an interesting performance curve! Will look at Dragon - thanks Hi, I have used a dragon tuning box on my C4, mainly to help with economy rather than extra power which my 2.0HDI (136bhp) doesn't need.
