bangermalc Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Well everything that can go wrong will go wrong i suppose. Have rebuilt a Xsara MkII (2001) 2.0L TD Hdi after a front end crash and everything seemed to be going well until it was time to drive it places. Fine when cold, but as the temp comes up the engine will only run at 2500 RPM. Now I am guessing this is because it getting too hot, and the reason it's getting to hot is because the fan isn't kicking in. I have tested the fan accross a battery and it runs fine, (It should do, it's brand new) so my question is where is the censor/switch and how do I test it? ThanksIan Quote
Guest andyp Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Rather than the fan having its own sensor, I think you may find that the fan is switched on by the ECU when the coolant temp sensor tells it that the coolant has reached a certain temperature. Is the temperature guage reading normally ? Quote
bangermalc Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 Yes the temp gauge is is working fine. Quote
paulntia Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I had a problem where the fan wouldnt kick in as you are facing the car to the left of the fan are 2 resistor packs one brown one grey (may be a diffrent colour on your car) one of these failed on mine take them out and check the spring inside hasnt snapped if it has replace the pack about £8 also check the resistor in the back. Typhon Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Had this problem too. Just had to replace the green relays in front which controls the fans  Quote
