Guest ray42 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 My cam belt broke therefore bending valves. Removed head and replaced valves. Replaced head and started to set up timing for new cambelt. Lined up exhaust cam to 7 clock and inlet cam to 5 clock position using 6mm bolts, then tried to line up camshaft pulley to 11 clock position, found that the pistons were touching valves so the crankshaft could turn no further to line up timing(8mm bolt)Being a qualified car mechanic this baffled me until I did a bit of research. The problem lies with the crankshaft pulley, it has a rubber sleeve between the inner hub and the outer hub and its common that the outer hub(aux belt) moves in relation to the inner. To check, remove crank pulley and the inner keyway (woodruf key)and the outer timming hole must be in line e.g. if key slot is at 12 clock then hole must be at 12 clock position above the key slot.
