Hi all,

I hope someone here can help, I have a T reg Xantia 1.8 estate. I have had problem after problem with the 2 front doors dropping and have had to have thm welded more than once. The drivers door has got so bad that it is now time to put on a new door.

I have removed the new door from the donor car, but need to know how to properly remove the door handle and lock fron my car, to use on the new door.

I tried to remove the handle from the donor car and ended up breaking the little lugg that the leaver for the lock feeds through.

Any help would be much appriciated :D

PS this is my first post,,,, nice site!!

Hi Dave.

I know what you mean about the door(s) dropping. My Drivers side one did it so I took the door clean off (a real pain with the wiring loom etc) and welded it up myself. Never had any more trouble with it after that. The door handle I'm not sure about on the Xantia but the ZX one has one 10mm nut which has to be undone before sliding the handle out of its position. Try looking for a nut or bolt on the inside of the door. Techbod will probably be able to help you better.

Cheers Hope this helps. ;)

Well I finaly got the door off!!,,, Geez! the wireing loom is a pain in the ass.

I got a replacement door from the scrappys for £25 so saved me from having to do any welding. I welded the pasenger door about a year ago and all seems fine, but the drivers door was well beyond repair.

Hi Dave,

I am presuming that you have sorted out your problem, however if you are still trying to change the lock, then it is a simple operation. First open the door and locate a small rubber bung on the door edge, with this removed insert a thin bladed screwdriver, you also need the key in the lock at this point. Now gently push with the screwdriver, then turn the key a few degrees and gently pull. The lock barrel should now pull out with the key. Replacement is even easier it is just a case of pushing the barrel back in.

Hope this has been of some use, if not to you then others who may be viewing this thread.

Dave.
