Guest Colin Hunter Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 Hi There Ian. Steering gaiter or, more correctly, steering RACK gaiter. This is the concertina style rubber boot which seals the rack body and the track rod together. To change it you will need to remove the wheel and remove the track rod end from the swivel hub. The track rod end must then be removed (Put a couple of turns of masking tape at the back of the locknut so you can put it back in the same place) so that the gaiter can be slid off over the end of the track rod after undoing the clip which holds it onto the rack body. It may be a bit awkward if the rack isn't easily accessible. You may need to get the tracking properly set again afterwards as it's difficult to get the track rod end back in exactly the right position. If you are in anty doubt about the condition of the ends you may as well change them out at the same time as they cost very little. Cheers Hope this helps. :D Quote
