Thinking of buying a 2002 2.0 hdi C5 estate and was wondering what the suspension might require in regular maintenance. I live on a farm with quite a rough road leading to it. I would appreciate if anyone can tell me there are no problems when it comes to non- tarmac conditons. Confidence booster if you like on a system new to me.

Cheers. KF

Great suspension , My C5 is 7 yo , had a few niggles with various items but none with the suspension.

I,ve owned many hydro' Citroens going way back to the GS's and CX's in the 1970's . They were reliable way back then if the pipes didn't rust through. That seems to be the biggest improvement in the system ,the modern material that is used just doesn't rust . The current Hydractive system is a much simplified version of the systems used on the DS /GS /CX on these cars the steering and the brakes used the power fron the suspension pump which was driven from the engine . Now the brakes and steering are conventionally powered , and the suspension is powered from an electric pump, electrics control all the active functions on the new system.

As for your concern about rough roads , well this is where the system is at it's best and what the original Citroen Hydro' systems were built for , to combat the terrible French road network of the time .

Hope this helps , sit back and enjoy the best ride of your life!
