Hiya my first post on here, after a bit of advice / help, my mum has just got a used Citroen c3 and the dealer is posting us the owner handbook and i am unsure of a few buttons,

one of which is the auto lights (got a rain sensor so assume it all comes as one, i.e. big hub at top of window inside), how do u turn them on, its nothing obvious that i can see and show no similarities to my renault clios method, i am stumped, also is there anywhere to download the user book, renault have it under 'My Renault' but citroen dont seem to have anything.

this is it, its a 1.6 manual exclusive i think.

any help greatly received

Hello Christian.

Turn the Ignition Key to Accessories then press and hold the button on the end of the indicator stalk untill you hear a dong.

Once you hear that its activated the lights will come on when its dark or visability is poor or when the Wipers are going quite quickly.

Hope that helps.

Kind Regards

Hi Christian yeah the Accessories is the position just before the starter.

Right try it with the key in the first position before the accessories and see what happens.

I did it on my 2005 C3 Exclusive. Citroen never put it down in the handbook see. Now The MK2 C3s are even easier to set the Auto Lights.

thanks i went out to try it on every mode of ignition setting, no bong/dong noise unfortuantley, i started the engine and put my hand over the sensor like i can on my clio, but nothing. i would check fuses but until i get the handbook bit tricky. Do u suspect it maybe a main dealer job if needs fixing

It does sound dodgy dosen't if you tried everything.

To see if there is a fault with the Sensor put the wipers in Auto Posistion and tap the Sensor on the outside and the wipers should move. Try that first.

If that fails then there is a fault and a Citroen Dealer would have to look at it. I doubt they are cheap to replace either

well some good news the rain sensor works (handy as its raining here a min ago) but i have also tapped it and it wipes, but there is no dong sound from the indicator stalk, i have heard a dong noise the other day when i caught cruise control the other day, it bong'ed when i switched it off.

Its bugging me what could be wrong. The Dong is the same Dong that sounds when Cruise Control is Switched on.

Funny thing my brother has had dodge Sensors on both his previous 2003 52 Reg C3 1.4i SX Auto and his 2006 55 Reg C3 1.6i 16v Exclusive SensoDrive.

The Lights would come on when it was A Bright Sunny day so in the end he asked me to deativate it on both cars. Now mine was really good.

i know its annoyed me a bit, it had a new battery on it before we picked it up last week (but if the rain sensor works i cannot understand the light sensor not working), unfortunatley cant take it to the dealer till log book arrives and can tax it :D

Its a pain ain't it. Did your mother buy it from a Citroen Dealer?

unfortunately not, it came from a small localish trader in Eccleston near chorley. As for the car its a 2002 52 reg with 38k on and it had had 2 owners Arnold Clark Lease Hold and another Lady, it has FSH

It's possible then by the date that this car doesn't have auto lights fitted to it.

many of the extras came later and some finished earlier.

To be sure what it should have you need to take the VIN number to a dealer who will look it up on the Citroen computer, maybe KFK can help.

it has the rain sensor (i thought they would come as one like they do on my 2003 clio dynamique) i thought the come as one as it is operated by the sensor at the top of the window, i just looked at the date on the seatbelts which says ''25 06 02'', sorry for my ignorance what is KFK?

heres a few pics

OK your light /indicator stalk looks just like mine on my 54 reg car. The sensor also looks the same

The handbook datededition 05-2004, gives the following info on page11 in the In Brief section.

Automatic Lighting of headlamps

To activate or deactivate the function:

- Place ignition key in the ACCessories position (that is the first position clockwise of the key)

- Move the lighting control stalk to position 0

- Press the end of the control B (that's the push button on the end of the stalk) until you hear a confirmation gong.

Hope this helps

I told me the same thing when he first asked and he tried it but nothing. The Sensor looks identical to the one my C3 had. I know older Peugeot 206s 307s and the Citroen Xsara had a Sensor for only Auto Wipers and you could tell as it like has a clear greys colour in the senor like.

I put that number in and it comes back with 30 June or 01 July 2002 depending upon which site you use.

So what is the reg plate numbers on the car (not the letters) if it was delivered when it was made it will be XX02 XYZ

That's possible thenn it was held pending the 52 plate issue, no doubt the first owner wanted the newer plate and elected to wait. Vanity is strange thing.

Bought our latest C3 on a 07 plate 1 week before 57 plates came out. Got a further discount of £250 on the price.

The Car Could have been registed later than the built date as back in 2006 when 56 Reg Came out my Dealer had a Mark 1 C3 XTR on a 56 Plate and They stopped making the Mark 1 C3s in late 2005
