pablos800 Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I have recently bought a C1 Rhythm and it has always had a clutch noise. If the clutch pedal is depressed and then released when the engine is running in netral a clicking/clunking noise is heard. The same noise is heard when changing gear under light load conditions. It is similar to the noise sometimes heard in cars when a transmisssion takes up drive, but I find it rather odd that it should occur even in neutral. Does anyone know whether this is typical, or if not whether there is an adjustment Quote
TurboSlag Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 This is a little worrisome... Take her for a spin on a quiet road. Rev her hard, close to the redline in 2nd and 3rd as you accelerate in each gear. If you can feel a rough vibration through the clutch pedal as you change gear (usually as you lift the clutch pedal back up to re-engage drive) then get her in the the dealers. There's an issue with someC1/107s where the clutch release bearing corrodes due to faulty case hardening, and then slowly breaks up and (ultimately) fails. Quote

I have tried the test but cannot detect any vibration. Quote
TurboSlag Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Then you're *probably* ok. After reading your question I checked mine this morning and it does make a knocking noise, so you're likely ok, but worth mentioning it to them next time it goe in for a service. Quote
pablos800 Posted September 5, 2008 Author Posted September 5, 2008 Thank you. I shall keep you informed of the outcome when I put the car in for service. Quote

They said it is just the Release Bearing and is normal. It's always worth getting it logged on the system though just in case anything should go wrong in the future. Quote

I also think it is worth registering your concern so that it is logged by the garage.] Quote
justjim Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Thank you. I shall keep you informed of the outcome when I put the car in for service.sometimes the release bearing can make a noise its to do with the arrangement on the clutch fork the release bearing is held onto the clutch fork br a spring its normal Quote
