There are, aparently so I have been told by my friendly motor factors, two different brake pads available for the xsara HDi, mine were the more expensive Bosch type unfortunately - hey no matter there is only a few quid difference anyway. I got a full set of discs (front and rear) plus a full set of pads (front and rear) for just a tad over £100. Not a bad job to do either as long as the caliper carrier bolts come out ok. If you are only doing pad change then no bother at all - probably 3/4hr job all told with a cuppa break too.

I just gave the motor factors my reg number and they said here these are the ones you want.

You will need a torx bit to get the carrier off - and they will be tight! don't forget to put threadlock on them when you refit

hiya,

thanks jonno, youv'e been a great help just one more thing if it's not to much trouble could you tell me what size torx bit i'll need won't get the car till next week and if the studs are so tight it looks like i'll need a good quality one, i'm quite well tooled up but my torx stuff is a bit mickey mouse only ever used to take some ford seats out years ago and if my memory serves me right they seemed a bit soft, i hate starting a job and finding i haven't the gear thanks again harry.

T55 mate

I got a draper set 1/2" drive with multiple bits for around £8 they did the job ok. Mind you I did have to use an extension bar to crack them - if you need to do that I suggest placing an axle stand at the pivot point so that you dont twist the torx bit out of the cap head bolt.

hiya,

thanks a million jonno youv'e helped me a lot might get the car tomorrow and then find out the bits i need, have borrowed a good quality t55 bit i already have one but don't think would be much good a very cheap thing i bought years ago i'll try it first though if it rounds off i'll throw it away at age 72 i should be throwing all my gear over the tip, years ago was able to strip engines and repair them pretty good with gearboxes too in fact have built several specials (fibreglass) bodied jobs but was only a lad, thanks again harry.

The screws holding the disks may be a problem. They are torx but tend to round off. Had to use an impact driver in the end. I suggest clean the heads and use the impact driver from the start. Alternatively try heat first with plusgas. You probably have more patience than I. :)

If your buying torx bits get them from Hilti they are the best i've come across (better than snapon and britool in my opinion!) and check out CTS for the brake partprices
