Andy Worsfold Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 After having a service done yesterday there seems to be reduced power from the turbo. The turbo is coming in but at 3000rpm rather than 2000 like it did. Does anyone have any ideas? Many Thanks Andy Quote
stimulator Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Firstly I go straight back to the garage. The turbo on the 1.4 & 1.6 is variable and has a device mounted on it that move sthe vanes to reduce the load when you accelerate, thus decreasing the turbos inertia and making turbo lag non-evident. Its possible that the this has had its control disconnected either by accident or design due to it being in the way for another operation. As you say the turbo should be much earlier and seemless in operation. Quote
Andy Worsfold Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 Hi, Thanks, it wasn't serviced by a garage but by a very experienced mechanic. I'll pass on your solution although I don't think he disconnected anything? Its worth investigating. Andy Quote
stimulator Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 If by accident he knock off a connector of vacummn pipe he may not have seen it. One of my cars engines was written off because a mechanic in the dealership left a hose connector off allowing all of the coolant to blow out under load. Quote
TurboSlag Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Only the 1.6 HDi now has the variable turbo intake. The version of the 1.4 with that feature ceased producation on late 2005 as it could not be engineered to meet the latest round of Euro emissions regs. Quote
stimulator Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 My reply was in response to his question which does not specify his engine size. I have one of each the 1.4 16V 92BHP and the 1.6 16V 92BHP. The old 1.4 8V 70 BHP unit was not equiped with variable vane turbo fit. So to the original poster what is the year and engine size of your car? Quote
Andy Worsfold Posted September 12, 2008 Author Posted September 12, 2008 Hi its a 52 reg 1.4 hdi 92 16v. Does that help? Quote
Andy Worsfold Posted September 26, 2008 Author Posted September 26, 2008 Well having had the car checked out, it seems that it could be the turbo? Perhaps I need to take it to a Citroen dealer now  Any ideas how much thats going to cost? Quote
Guest Stephen345 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Well having had the car checked out, it seems that it could be the turbo? Perhaps I need to take it to a Citroen dealer now :( Any ideas how much thats going to cost? How did you get on with this? I've had no end of turbo troubles with my 1.4 92hp C3; in the end they put a new turbo on it. I recently suffered from loss of power again and they replaced the EGR valves, which has made a big difference but it's still not right. Like you I am finding the turbo kicks in late. Quote

Hi, Due to work committments its booked in with Citroen on Nov 3rd. I'll keep you posted. Quote
Andy Worsfold Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 The C3 went in Monday. I collected it today and it was the Turbo Electrovalve which had a damaged diaphram. This was replaced, car went fine for 5 minutes then engine management light went on and car lost its power. Drove slowly back to dealer and will report more when I hear. At least I'm getting to play with a C1! Quote
Andy Worsfold Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 They also said too much air getting into turbo? Quote
Andy Worsfold Posted November 5, 2008 Author Posted November 5, 2008 They also said too much air getting into turbo? And so it continues.....seems that the part they fitted was not faulty but there could be 2 other parts, one £50 and the other £150. So I'm not happy. Where else can you take something to be repaired, the repairer makes it worse and YOU have to pay. Any idea what my rights are? A trip to trading standards might be in order! Quote
Andy Worsfold Posted November 6, 2008 Author Posted November 6, 2008 Further update! Citroen now think its the turbo! Do they really know? Do they care? What a waste of money. I'm absolutely furious  Quote
Andy Worsfold Posted November 6, 2008 Author Posted November 6, 2008 I've calmed down a bit now. Had a long chat with the technician. The turbo is now receiving the correct airflow but it is now spinning too fast and thus sending a fault code. £1200 plus labour for a new one. So I'm hoping to source a cheaper alternative. (Any suggestions greatfully received). The turbo is now cutting in at 2000rpm so that problem is cured. I was only charged for the original work and not for the extra time that was spent on the car, so I was pleaantly surprised. The 2 extra parts were fitted but not needed either. I do think they tried their best and I'll have to see how the car goes. (I still love my C3!) Quote
Andy Worsfold Posted November 7, 2008 Author Posted November 7, 2008 I've driven the car around quite a bit today and its been absolutely fine? back to normal even. So in answer to the delayed turbo problem it was definately the electrovalve. The other problems will possibly surface again. As for having a dealer that spent quite a bit of time on the car and then not charging I can't complain at all. :o Quote
