StormB Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Hi all, I bought some replacement front speakers after reading a few C1/Aygo/107 forums, trying to find a speaker model which would fit. I settled on a pair of infinity 4022's... but it seems as though these don't fit though! In fact I can't see how any replacement speakers would fit! See the attached pics - there's a big 'screw type thing' which gets in the way of the magnet (the big red one in the middle of the pictures)! How did the rest of you get around this?! Cheers, Will Quote
TurboSlag Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 How did the rest of you get around this?!Easy - I fitted 10cm Kenwoods which drop straight in as if PSA had intended it that way. Not many speakers fit straight in, and a few fit with mods to the grille (Alpine 4"ers, for example), but most have too deep or bulky a basket to go. Quote

TurboSlag Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Kenwood KFC-1069S. Check ebay cos they often go cheap (mine were £11), cos retail they can be £30-£40. Use pliers to snap off the mounting tabs with the round holes, leaving the 2 tabs with the elongated holdes. Sounds nasty, but the mounting tabson these speakers are serrated and designed so the unwanted ones can be removed. With that done, they drop in as if Mr Citroen had intend it that way and the 2 x 10mm headed mounting screws line up perfectly. You'll need to cut off the Citroen connectors and solder or crimp on about a foot of the Kenwood speaker wire with the terminals. Attach the +ve side of the new wire to the darker coloured cable on the car. The original grilles then pop on neatly over the top. Once doe it makes a BIG improvement to sound quality. Quote
StormB Posted September 26, 2008 Author Posted September 26, 2008 OK, brilliant. Couldn't find any KFC-1069S speakers cheaply (they're discontinued), but picked up a pair of KFC-1061S speakers which also fit perfectly. Compared to the Infinitys (which I managed to bodge in), the bass is now far louder, but overall clarity is a bit less. Funny thing is the Infinitys are about twice as heavy as the Kenwoods, and the magnet is huge in comparison! The attached pic gives some idea as to the difference.. It think the reason the Infinitys didn't sound as good as they could do was because my headunit (Sony 4x45W) wasn't up to powering them. I could stick the volume right up and still not get a very loud sound. In the end I'm happy I've 'downgraded' as the sound is very good considering both how much space there is and the fact that I'm using the headunit to power them. If I had an external amp powering the front speakers then things might be different, but thats very unlikely to happen  Will PS. To attach my speakers in both cases I've bought a set of Autoleads adapters.. far easier than splicing cables etc :( (Autoleads part no PC2-824 for anyone who's interested). Quote
JenJen Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 What are the actual characteristics of the original front speakers? Nominal power, musical power, impendance, sensitivity etc.? I'd like to buy better ones, but for that I'd need to know what I have at the moment. :D Quote
Jon B Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Having just replaced my speakers I looked at the old ones. They are crappy Dual Cones that put out just 13.5 Watts of I presume RMS power. I just installed some Alpine 4" ones that are 25w RMS and have a max output of 180w. I'm slightly disappointed for two reasons though. Firstly I had to trim down the grilles in order to get them back on nice and flush. Secondly, the Bass is still poor. But i'm looking at getting an Active sub under the front seat just to give the bass a better sound. However the clarity on these new speakers are superb and I can actually have music that is louder than the engine without distortion. In comparison my new Alpines weighed a ton compared with the stock speakers. Quote
Guest Bugsey Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 160w Jvc's i fitted in the fronts are ace, clarity superb, bass way better and again, clipped the 2 wings off the speakers and used adapter wires, easy. Cheers. Quote
