ritbitboy Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 As some of you may have seen, I am newbie on here and I sell Citroens. I am new to the brand but have owned an AX GT and have a Xsara Picasso 1.6 hdi now which I love. Looking on this forum I see that to most of, fuel economy is a massive factor in why you went for a Citroen - but I am still trying to find if there is a definitive answer to "What is a typical Citroen buyer ?" Was it monthly payments ? Was it economy ? Was it styling ? Was it having had one before and sticking with it as it served you well ? Did you swot up online before going to buy it ? Did you get it from a main dealer ? As I mentioned in other threads, I am not here to promote myself...I am genuinely interested in what your motivation was for buying one. Imagine we were down the pub and I said to you "I need a new car, but I don't have a clue what to go for" how would you sell me the idea of a Citroen ? And before anyone says "That's your job to tell people why they want one", that's why I am asking on here...effectively anonymous...with people who care and love their hard earned vehicles. Quote
wozza Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Not really anything particular I just liked the way the C4 Coupe looked so bought one. Originally had a wicked red 1.6 VTR+. Now have a Scott Yellow VTS 180. So fuel economy isn't a big concern, nor is tax etc since I choose the most expensive to run car in the lineup. Selling points though. Cheap especially with the cash back offers and rather negotiable prices. Yes they depreciate quite badly but you tend to spend a lot less on them so while it may look like your car has lost £12k in the first 3 years...its only lost around 1/2 that when you take into account the cash back etc. Well equipped, drive well, goes well. Distinctive styling. Comfortable. I tried out loads of other cars and felt that the Focus, Astra, Corolla etc were all dull boring and not particularly comfortable in comparison to the C4. Hence I bought a C4. Quote

wozza Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Last week. Not picked it up yet. Took me a while to find one in Scott Yellow and this one I saw on autotrader one night. Called them first thing the next morning. Told them I was coming from Manchester to see it and could they hold it for me if anyone comes in for it. Drove down to Weston Super Mare took it for a test drive checked it over for the usual problems and put a Deposit down. Pick it up 1st week of November I think. Got to get some bits done to it first, Service and a few paint repairs which Citroen have to agree with. Also want to wait till I am 25 and got my extra year NCB as I was having trouble getting it insured under 25 due to living in Manchester. Quote
TurboSlag Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I like Citroen, having previously owned an XM and a Xantia, and hankered after a C1 - small, cheap, low running costs, and pretty reliable. Alas, for the same money I got it's cousin, the Peugeot 107, but chock full of kit the C1 at the same price lacked (body coloured door mirrors & handles, rev counter, rear head rests, electric windows, central locking etc). Guest Citroen_Nut Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I had never given a thought about citroens when i was younger but having had an accident and got an AX GT cheap, i was hooked. It had already had a K&N Filter, Janspeed exhaust and been slightly lowered but i lowered it further (3 notches on the rear and 60mm on front), changed the exhaust, added 4 X 10inch cubs, set of 6 x 9s, 6 inch mids in rear side, 6 inch mids in front doors. I loved the way it could leave other cars standing from the lights, with the lowered suspension it could corner like it was on rails, it was suprisingly economic (even with my lead right foot) and cheap to fix (whenever it did go wrong). I did eventually sell the car but regretted it ever since. I've now got an N reg ZX Volcane 2.0i 8v (which only cost me £400. Its only done 81K and is in good condition) and i'm beginning to feel like 10 years younger. Theres not much info out there on't web as to what can be done to the engines, suspension, etc but i'm hoping some peeps on here will provide me with a wealth of info. I'm not after massive improvements on the performance but would like to increase it a bit. Quote
Billy Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Well if you want a Berlingo you have to buy a Citroen really because nobody else makes them, apart from Peugeot. The only alternatives, VW Caddy, too expensive. Ford Connect Tourneo too big(smaller car version not available in UK) Vauxhall Combo, window version not available in UK, Diabolo, too ugly, Kagoo, too small(& its a Renault) Quote
