Hi this is my first post - I really hope somebody out there can come to my aid.

I have a Xantia and the heater fan sliding switch stopped working. But the problem is intemittent. It works sometimes but it seems to be at a reduced level. Sometimes it comes on and off and sometimes it doesnt work for a day or so!

There seems to be a noise coming from under the glove box when it is going on and off.

Any help much appreciated

When this happened to me on my 18i Xantia, it was the IGNITION SWITCH that was faulty. Go figure!!

Does everything else work electrically? If I remember right, the Heated Rear Screen also didnt work because of this.

If everything still DOES work, it might not be the Ign Switch.

cheers

Hi Ian

Thanks for your reply. Everything else is working perfectly and I dont know which way to turn now. Been to Citroen dealers today and they want £42.00 just to look at it for half an hour. They said they probably wouldn't find the fault in half an hour!!!!!

Has anybody out there got any thoughts? Pretty please.

This is almost certainly due to burnt contacts in the ignition switch, and is one of the few weaknesses in the Xantia. The most economical and most reliable fix is to retrofit a relay that carries the load on behalf of the ignition switch. In fact, I recommend this procedure be done BEFORE the fan behaviour becomes erratic.

I have a circuit diagram and other useful information on how to do this job yourself, and will send the package of information to any who email me to request it.

my eMail is petermann@dodo.com.au

I also have an information package on upgrading the wiring to the headlights, which is also well worth doing if you drive out of town at night, simply because the huge resistance losses in the el-cheapo standard setup makes the headlights dim and yellow.
