Whilst driving down the motorway last night listening to some tunes the stereo decided to partially stop working, the sound coming out of it all distorted as if the radio wasn't tuned in - thing is I was listening to my ipod at the time, this distortion is also present when the radio is on too, however if I turn it right down to say level 5 it goes away, only returning in intensity the higher I turn the volume up, is it possible I've blown the speakers or is this a fault anyone else has come across it's driving me nuts as it's rendering the sound system useless! I have the same problem and a radio technician checked my radio and said it was the tuner inside the radio and would need to have a new tuner fitted(£100+VAT)The problem would only get worse,I asked if I could change the radio but as all the security gizmos are thro the radio it is much more expensive,So i think it is time to get shut and get a non french car(Citreon C5 Estate 2004)

The chances of blowing ALL the speakers at once are remote to say the least. If the sound is distorted from ALL speakers, the problem lies elsewhere.

You don't say if the CD player (if present) gives the same result and you don't mention the method by which your iPod is connected to the stereo.

If CDs give the same distorted result, it's likely that the amplifier - or the connection from the tuner/CD head to the amplifier - is where the fault is.

If CDs sound OK, and your iPod uses an external or aerial in-line FM modulator, a tuner failure would explain the problem, but if the iPod is wired in via an auxiliary jack or other hard-wired connection, I'd expect CDs to be similarly afflicted.

Any additional info, Visa?
