bkouara Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 hi guys, it seems that the starter motor on my 1.6 petrol picasso x reg, is either in need of a clean up or maybe a replacement, which ever can you please help me on how to take it out. Thanks :D :( Quote
Guest Colin Hunter Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Hi There. It's not complicated. Like any other starter motor you need to do 3 things. Disconnect the batteryIdentify the electrical connections to the motor and remove them, Take a picture or 2 (if you can)to remind you what went where.Unbolt the motor at its mounting flange to the engine. Don't know about the 1.6 engine but the 1.4 on the lads ZX has 3 bolts here. Two from the motor side and one from the gearbox side. once they are removed the motor should come out easily. There may, of course, be problems with access but you should be able to get to it from below. When you've got it out, see if you can strip it so you can clean and grease the bearings and check the condition of the commutator/brushes and freedom of the soleniod/pre engage mechanism. Other than that there's not much you can do. Cheers, sorry can't be of more help. Quote
