Dave444 Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 My C3 has come up with Sport and Snow indications symultaneously at approx weekly intervals for a couple of months. It means a gearbox management fault according to the handbook and I see that verified from a scan thro the forum. My local agent got a fault report "06" out of his computer.Does anyone know what the 06 means. My Citroen agent didn't know as he was expecting a Pxxx number. (3 numerical digits)The effect is that it gets stuck in high gear and the only way out is to stop, switch off and restart. The gear lever is ignored in manual and the indication remains at "D" for drive. The gear box costs in excess of £4000 which is about the trade in value of the car at 3 years old. Yes the guarantee has just run out...... and I've only done 16,000 miles. Any comments would be gratefully appreciated. Dave Quote
raveydavey Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Does your car have a full Citroen service history? If so, try Citroen Customer Services for a goodwill claim. There is no way it is acceptable for a gearbox to fail at that age / mileage and for the dealer to be unable to provide a specific diagnosis of the fault. Be warned though that Citroen Customer service are notoriously reluctant to pay for anything and are generally useless. They may well take all your details and promise to phone you back, but then won't. This may happen repeatedly before they eventually give you incorrect information and refuse to pay for it. But then again you may buck the trend of most on here and get them to pay for it. It has to happen eventually. If you get nowhere there the other option is Trading Standard / Consumer Direct - or one of the consumer columns in the press, or the Consumers Association, if you're a member (although I guess you're not as you probably wouldn't be posting on here if you were...) Dave444 Posted October 3, 2008 Author Posted October 3, 2008 Thanks raveydavey. It might not come to changing the gearbox, it could still be one of the gearbox controls/sensors. I have had the car from new and have the complete service history documented and the gearbox oil has remained at the correct level. Apart from this bomb shell I have been quite pleased with the car. It comes with a good range of extras.I notice that Newbie said in his posting that he is “having all the electrovalves replaced. £500 – great”.I will chase up the Citroen Service centre with the aid of my local agent who is still trying to resolve this. They have not charged me anything yet which is a small saving grace. It hinges a lot on finding out what the computer fault report actually means. The car is still running well and sounds good except when the fault comes on which is only very occasional.Dave Quote
raveydavey Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 No problem. I hope I didn't put too much of a downer on things, but Citroen Customer Service are shockingly bad. I too am generally very pleased with my C3, but Customer Services and the way I've been treated by them and some of their dealers are the reason that I will never buy another Citroen.Sadly the posts on here suggect that I'm far from alone in this. For a company that claims to want to take on the big German marques with the C5 and C6 they have an awful lot to learn. Quote
CE08LDB Posted October 5, 2008 Posted October 5, 2008 My Brothers old 2003 52 Reg C3 1.4i SX Auto at 2 years old the Gearbox had to be replaced. after 6 months of owning it, it was going into snow mode and the dealer fixed it and went ok for awhile then it started happening again which then resulted in major gearbox damage. lucky it was a motability car and it was still under warranty. It was on about 35,000 miles then. Quote

Dave HI, I had exactly the same problem and it was cured by replacing the electrovalves in the gearbox. Cost around £500. Hope that helps. Tori Quote
