The gauge on your LHM resorvoir is simple to replace. Give it a 1/4 turn anticlockwise and it will lift out. I can't imagine that a new one will break the bank. Just go to your local dealership and ask. You may be pleasantly surprised. Citroen parts are not overly expensive. If you don't want to go down that route, I daresay you'll find a replacement in a breakers. If you still can't be arsed, then the level should be about 1/2 way up the tank! Either run the car as it should be run or buy a F**K*d BMW! I'm bloody fed up of hearing about people trying to run these brilliantly conceived MACHINES on a shoestring!

Your choice! ;)

it was mainly from a saftey point of veiw and to make sure im not damagin the system, havin just started a new job 20miles away an not been payed in 3 weeks all my money is goin toward buying diesel so cannae realy afford luxury items like working gauges, i plan to really look after the car when i have the funds. i agree with the shoestring thing to an extent but i paid 200quid for my car so it essentialy shoestring motoring. most xantias are dirt cheap so you cant expect the normal sort of person who buys cheap cars to replace every single gauge light bulb and sensor ect cheers for you help anywaes

I have a Xantia HDI 2 Lt and looking at the posts this morning I seem to have had a few of the problems myself including the LHM level not working, I was changing the LHM and when I removed the tank I saw that the wee cap which fits on the bottom of the level gauge tube had come off, I refitted it, and after the job was done the gauge worked again. Hope this helps. Allan
