Forum,

Since yesterday the Cooling Faulty STOP Alarm comes on intermittently. I checked water container level = OK

I was told to check the earthing points (under battery).

What else can I do?

Hi Fred,

I had the same problem a few years ago. In my case, they were false alarms. Fixed it by cleaning and oiling the connections to the Bitron unit as well as earth connections under and behind the battery. Never heard of the Bitron ? What were they thinking ? Never mind, its one of those things nobody really understands.

On my 1994 2.0i, the Bitron unit is located under the black cover that sits behind the battery. It sits in front of the passenger side suspension sphere. I can send a photo if you are confused. I use the heaviest gear oil for rust proofing my elec connections, a LimSlip differential oil with SAE of 85W140, because it evaporates most slowly and has best anti-corrosive additives.

I would also clean and rustproof the connector that fits the temp sensor, which is screwed into the alloy head.

To request photo, my eMail is petermann@dodo.com.au.
