terryrmills Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 My personal experience with Citreon leaves a lot to be desired on a C5 I bought from new:

* Rear Brakes squeal admitted by Citron but refuse to deal with it, as “it does not affect braking performance”. Ask my neighbours, check my eardrums!
* Incompatible roof rack equipment supplied.
* Poor recording of service details that potentially affect guarantee.
I would like to know how many other Citroen users have been treated in an arrogant, high handed, and potentially negligent way. I have constructed a Website to co-ordinate responses in order to bring public awareness to this situation of poor service. Citron senior management need to know how their customers feel – not just the stymied view filtered to them by their “Customer Service” Department. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have created a Group http://groups.msn.com/Citroenusers/ and an associated website www.citroenbrakesqueal.com/ to bring together Citroen users who feel that they have been let down by poor service from Citroen dealers. I want to hear of your poor experiences at the hands of Citroen! This whole activity is as the result of an inability to get a message past the impenetrable “Customer Service” Department at Slough. C5 Driver Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 I have had a couple of similar problems. Brought new C5 2.0 HDI in March 2005. Told by the dealer that service interval was every 20,000 miles or 2 years. Took car to my local dealer for free first month service, and they re-set the service counter to every 10,000 or 1 year. Took my service manual into the garage (clearly stating 20,000 / 2 years), and there excuse was 'we only work from the documentation citroen send us'. On looking at this, he eventually showed me, the service procedures they used covered up to model year 2004 i.e. before the face lift. Checked with an independant citroen garage, and yes the service interval for my model should be 20,000 or 2 years. Guess where I am not going for servicing. I also had a faint squeal from the brakes after 4 months, but this now seems to have stopped. Quote
greyboy Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 My 2.2 hdi sx brakes squealed from the day of the test drive. I still bought the car as it was the best condition / price / colour etc . I removed the rear wheels to find brand new discs/pads but no copper grease on the pad backs. A good smear later and the dreaded squeal has gone. It had done 102k miles when i bought it. :D Quote
victorsierra Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Have owned C5 V6 for 4 years now with brake squeal a regular occurance. Most effective fix I have found, providing all braking components are in good order, is to apply heavy braking pressure when stopped at lights etc. Also to apply regular strong braking action when safe to do so when approaching need to stop/slow down. This also seems to alleviate to a certain extent the brake squeal usually heard when in reverse. Living in city and driving an automatic I naturally tend to use brakes lightly, sometime heavy use appears to keep calipers 'active'. Quote
Amelie Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 I had very noisy brakes looked at three times and received similar "assurances". Then I took it to a new Citroen dealer who also sells Porsche for its scheduled service. They found that the rear pads were badly worn and needed immediate replacement!?! Very strange that rear pads would fail before the front, since they do much less work. And only 6 months after they were checked 3 times? The new dealer had tested 4 or 5 types until they had found a brake pad that had great performance and much lower dust than the standard. When I remember the brand, I'll tell you. :D Quote
citroeneddie Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 My brakes have squealled from new. Dealer says they all do it. Perhaps that's why for every new look C5 I see on the road, I see about ten 407's. :D and I do about 36k per year. Quote
