Since I got my 2.0hdi Berlingo van about a year ago it has always had a dodgy horn. I managed to get it working (purely by chance I think) at one point, but it went again.

I thought the problem was with the BSI/Com2000 unit so I bit the bullet and booked in at a local dealer for a diagnostic check.

the dealer said that the problem was that the inner ring on the com2000 unit that allows the horn to connect was faulty. I couldn't see how, but thought they're the dealer, they should know.

Well a few months later, guess what, the horn packed up again. I decided to have a look and see if I could sort it myself.

I located and bought a replacement com2000, and set to work getting the airbag off.

When I got the airbag off, I saw that on the back of the airbag, there are 4 terminals, one in each corner that are made from brass. These basically close the circuit on the horn once the steering wheel centre is depressed.

It looked like someone had tried to bend these and they had signs of wear. I straightened them out so they looked how they should be, cleaned them up and put a spot of solder on each to close the gap between the contacts slightly.

I reassembled it all, did a bsi reset and hey presto, it works!

I think I'm going to go back to the dealer and tell them what I think as they fed me a load of tripe when it went to them!

So if anyone gets a faulty horn and they want any advice on how to repair, let me know!

Also if anyone wants a replacement com2000 I have one going!
