This morning I discovered that the carpet in the driver's footwell was saturated.

Not being able to see the source I took off the wipers and the wiper facia for a look at the drain for the driver side of the windscreen. No problem.. all clear.

Then I decided to take the carpet out to dry it.Impossible!!

It is quite simply a huge job to remove the carpet intact. It has thick formed foam attached and this is,of course, sodden.

In the end I cut a square out with a very sharp knife in the hope I can dry it out over a period of days and in the meantime I will try to spot the source of the water.Perhaps it will go back in and not be too noticeable.Meanwhile I will drive with no carpet in the footwell.

I suspect that a large rubber bung on the floor is responsible. It is not a tight fit and there is no sealant applied to it.It is all there is between the footwell and the road.

I am fairly sure the water is not dripping from above. If anyone has any information to share on this problem I would be most gratefull.

I will post the solution when I find it.

;) This is two days later...I hosed the whole car spending most time on the driver's area but there was no sign of a leak whatsoever.I have an even stronger suspicion of the rubber bung in the floor.I applied some sealant to it.Thankfully the carpet/foam stuff dried out after hours of sitting in front of a fire and it has gone back into the car with minimum sign that it has ever been out.I am still suspicious because I have no proof the bung is responsible.

Be aware that the carpet did not feel soaking wet because the foam holds the water so well.It would not be long before the floor /carpet started to rot.

If the problem comes back I will post again.

Read honest Johns web report of the Berlingo. He mentions a foam insert under the wiper facia that comes adrift giving you the symptoms you describe. Paul.
