I've been working out the fuel consumption for our C1 for a year now, and even though it is mainly used for short journeys I've been quite pleased. With purely town driving we get mid 40s mpg, and on a run (usually cruising at 75mph) mid 50s mpg.

On one tankful it only managed 36mpg! This wasn't due excessively heavy footed driving, but on reflection I've decided it coincided with that really cold spell earlier this year. I have to say I was surprised how much difference it made.

Did anyone else notice anything like this, or has my wife been driving with the handbrake on?

It still seems a long way off the official figures? I get 61MPG out of mine but I drive 20 miles on a quiet country lane to work with no traffic lights. Yes I do know how lucky I am as I have lived in London before). I didn't notice much difference in the cold but then I wasn't looking for it. One thing I have noticed is how quickly it seems to be ageing and how bumpy the suspension is.

On another note I have noticed in forums reference the new fiest that is suppose to manage 75mpg is well off that figure. How do comapnies get away with it.

I've not noticed any difference in fuel consumption in cold weather. Yours definitely seems quite low. When driving it not-so-economically I can get 45-55mpg, spending about half its time in traffic.

Just did a long 70mph motorway run (including an hour of stop-start traffic) - got 62.5mpg. C1 hasn't had an oil change yet (6k on the clock), so I'm hoping it will be even better after that.

I love the challenge of getting good fuel consumption - even to the point where I'll stay at 60mph directly behind a lorry for ages just to slipstream.

I'd save money if I could drive like that, I'm afraid I'd be overtaking the lorry at 75 :)

I've generally been happy with the consumption I'm getting. My last car was a Civic Type R and the best I ever got was 32mpg on a long slow run. Out of town I'm getting into the low to mid 50s mpg with the C1, without restraining my driving at all. It reminds me of my first car, a 2CV, I drove every where flat out and it still cost very little filling up :)

The 36mpg seems to have been a one off, I haven't got lower than 45 since. I think it was a bad combination of very cold weather slowing down the warm up process, and a lot of very short journeys, but I'll report back if it happens again ;)

Totally with you on the comparison thing! My last car was an '87 BMW 635. Drank petrol like no other - averaged about 20-25mpg per tank! Doesn't matter how low my C1 really goes - it's still gonna be cheaper to run than that!!
