Hi all, hope someone can help me out with this one!

Recently got stuck in traffic(approx 45 mins)but when got moving again had loads of grey/white smoke coming from exhaust.Parked car for a couple of hours but when started driving again more grey/white smoke.(got so bad that I had to pull off motorway and get car recovered home)Put car into garage who diagnosed a faulty egr valve.Replaced valve (Top marks to Citroen Services in Glasgow)However, still smoking although nowhere near as bad as before and only very rarely(seems to be when engine has been idling for a long time although not always)Car is 2004 HDi, uses very little oil, mileage is 68k.When it happens I have no warning lights just smoke.I dont want to throw money at this,I would rather cut my losses so if anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful.

White smoke is normally indicative of coolant being burnt, was it definately a very light colour? EGR faults normally cause a dark sooty smoke. If you had it replaced and still have an issue, suggest you check your coolant level as a starter, also check oil via dipstick for any white muck.

Might be it just needs a good spirited drive to clear it all out, the EGR really messes up the inlet manifold and valves, took me ages to get mine clean when my head gasket went.

As an aside, I run mine on Shell V power diesel, and get no smoke apart from a slight trace if I have been in heavy slow traffic a long time, then it is only minimal and for a few sesconds. Maybe put a couple of tanks of that through with some diesel injector cleaner, start with the cheap stuff.

Hope that helps.
