Have any of you good people ever fitted an aftermarket tuning chip, I am thinking of fitting one soon and would be interested in any feedback, they vary from about £85 (ebay) to £200+, whats the difference and do they work?

Hi There. Yes I have one fitted to my 2.0 Hdi Picasso (02) which has done 75K miles now, I fitted it shortly after buying it about 18 months ago when the car had done 62K. I don't see the one I have on Ebay at the moment but I bought it after checking out each box independently. I daresay they're all much of a muchness at that price anyway. The claim was 90 up to 115 BHP and 148 up to 192 lb/ft of torque. The engine is definitely more torquey but delivers the goods differently to my previous 110HDi Xantia which had it all low down. This one builds more gradually and seems to rev more freely, although it's difficult to know exactly with the car not having a tacho fitted. The fuel consumption improved slightly, but nor as much as they claimed, possibly due to me using the increased performance more. The car is definitely livelier, particularly with 4 up on hills where a downchange used to be neccesary to maintain speed. Now it just sails up them with ease!

Cheers. Hope this helps. :D

I have a kingquip tuning box on my hdi and at first I thought it was a load of rubbish. I fitted it, found the best position for the potentiometer on it, and started using it.

When it came to MOT time, the emissions were off the richter scale. We disconnected the box, then it was fine after about 10 mins running.

So, when the next MOT time came round, I disconencted it at home before I went to the test centre. When I set off, I realised how good the box was. Withouth it my van drove like a tank. Really sluggish and very slow; unresponsive.

So, the upside, it's a lot quicker. Downside, the economy has been hit quite a bit. I would say it's gone from a good 43mpg down to about 32 to 35mpg. I change my oil every 5,000 miles, and use a good semi synthetic engine oil. (10w40 if my memory serves me right)

Hope that helps you!
