myke Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I have a 55 HDi with Modubox and the roof lights. I have started to get water dripping down from just above the windscreen on both ends. It comes from the plastic trim that houses the interior lights. It could be coming from anywhere and collecting on the top of the trim then dripping down when I drive round a bend. Has anyone else had this problem and, if so, where does the water get in? I dont want top have to replace all the glass rubbers. My local garage would have a field day with the bill!!! Quote
iannez Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 theres only 2 dealers in the country that would remove the roof panel but dont think this is your problem. remove the ariel base and refit it using some rtv (silicone sealer). these are nearly always the cause. Quote
myke Posted November 18, 2009 Author Posted November 18, 2009 Thanks very much for that. How do i remove the aerial base? Do I need to remove the full width interior panel above the driver/passenger to get access to the underside of the aerial? Quote
myke Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 Just for information to anyone who has the Modubox unit fitted in their car. I have discovered where the water is coming from. I removed the interior light which gave me a sight of the inside fitting of the aerial. However what has caused the water leak is not around the aerial but condensation on the inside of the metal roof as it was absolutely dripping. Not much I can do about that Quote
iannez Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 yes but the condensation will be coming from the water that is coming in through the ariel base. Quote
Guest bigsacs Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Hello, It seemed best to add to this posting instead of starting a new one. I also have a 2005 Berlingo Desire with the modubox roof. For the last few days l've had a water leak somewhere on the roof. Normally just a small amount of water, say about 1/2 cup. This morning however the front half of the interior is soaked. It was very heavy rain last night. I've read it may be from the aerial fitting and l'll check this. Has anyone experience of similar leaks from the roof? In particular from the glass roof panels. Rain water collects in puddles at the rubber seals and they look as if they might be a possible source of leaks. Any help would be appreciated. I've only had it for just over a month so will return it to the dealer if it looks an awkward job. If they can't help l may even reject the sale and demand a refund!! The car is simply not usable in its present condition. Not in rain soaked Scotland!! Thanks bigsacs Quote
Guest gerty Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Hi Bigsacs We bought a brand new Berling Desire in March 2007. During it's first year it only did 500 miles, due to me having a company car at that time. It was kept undercover for much of this time. We had the odd spot of water which we put down to car washing etc. We have never put it in a car wash, or used a high pressure hose on it. A change of job circumstance last November meant I was using it daily - and then the problems started. Water was constantly dripping from the seam next to the sun visor on the passenger side. We put waterproof seat covers on the car, and a towel in the footwell to try and keep things under control. The car had done 2,000 miles at this point, and it was at the end of it's 3 year warranty period. We took the car back to the dealership for investigation in April this year. They held the car for two days for an inspection, and decided to try and get their windscreen guy to try and deal with it. At this point, you could see large gaps around every window on the roof, at the rounded corners. Between the initial inspection period, and the car being booked in, things went from bad to terrible. The day I took the car in to the garage, we had a torrential rainstorm. During a 30 minute journey, I had to wear full waterproofs - hood up - and towels across all the instrument panels, and buckets on the floor and on my lap as water literally poured into the vehicle. They kept the car for two days, and found that the bonding in the roof panel had come apart. They attempted to re-bond it, and we collected the car again. All went well for about five weeks - no water. Two weeks ago it started again - not on the grand scale as before, but you could see where it was heading. They took it back in, and had another go at it. We picked it up last Saturday, and surprise, surprise Monday morning, more water. It now comes to light that 2 sites were set up to deal with these 'problem roofs' in the UK. The whole inside of the car has to be taken out - seats, carpets, everything. The roof has to be cut off, and a replacement put on. I've been told that the fault is with the bonding on the original design spec, and it was changed subsequently. It is now highly likely that all of the offending vehicles are now out of warranty, and as such, Citroen won't touch them. Our car has only done £22k miles in 3 and a half years. It is not a wear and tear issue - it is a design fault. Citroen UK must have been aware of the design fault when we bought the car, but they still sold it to us. We cannot trade the car in against another one, or sell it like this. I'm guessing whoever you bought the car from, Bigsacs, might have been aware of the problem - let us know how you get on. Quote
Guest bigsacs Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Gerty, I managed to get a dry day and resealed the aerial mounting with some silicon gunge. Since then, no problems!! The condensation which was also present each time the car was left with the windows up on a sunny day has almost all gone so it seems as if the problem has been identified. There seemed to be no residue from whatever the manufacturer sealed it with and l actually doubt whether it was ever sealed in the first place. As for drying out the carpets, i've resorted to laying sheets of newspaper under the rubber mats which have soaked up almost everything. My darling wife then spilt a whole cup of coffee into the footwell so its now got a rather musty odour but it may also be from the drying out carpets. Regards Bigsacs Quote
