2002 Hdi 16v Cold Start Issues

Hi all,

 

I've had a bit of a seach on this but there doesn't seem to be a definative answer on this. Over the last week our C3 has developed an issue with starting from cold. It cranks over for about 30 seconds to a minute before firing. As with other reports, it throws out a load of white smoke. It seems to be running a lot more noisely too, we actually mistook this for being a bad blow from the exhaust at first!

 

There has been no EML shown.

 

It is also giving off a lot of what we think is exhaust fumes from thr front end too (this is why we initialy thought exhaust).

 

We are in the process of giving it a damn good service, it needs one anyway. I have a feeling that this is not going to sort the problem though. What would be suggested as my next port of call. Idealy I don't want to have to go to the stealers.

I have had the same problem for weeks now, No EML on and got a diagnostics on it to find it said cylinder 4 injector. While the injectors where out i had all 4 refurbed with Kieth at United Diesels Very good, cost me £500 pounds.

Put these back in and same problem was there, My mechanic came round with another diagnostic guy and they still said it was Cylinder 4 injector.

Hmmm took it out and got it checked at United Diesels which were happy to do at no extra cost. Injector was fine. i removed the loom and checked all if the wires with a Fluke meter. No problems.

Tonight we were fitting the injectors back in and 2 of the studs that tighten the injector in place snapped, Sigh so on a trip to citreon tomorrow to get new ones and see if there is a special way they need tightening.

Found out this weekend there was a problem with Cylinder 4 injector not seating properly 1 year old. woulda have loved to found that out ages ago. might have to find a reseating tool as well.

Will keep ya posted how it goes.

P.S does the engine sound more Rattly like a old transit van ? cos Mine does and everybody said it was pointing to Injector problems.

Yeah, it does sound very rattly. I've described it as going from sounding like a taxi to sounding like a tank. :lol:

 

 

It has all the symptoms that seem to have been described many times on here and elsewhere, but no one seems to have found a definative cause and solution.

ive ordered new injector bolts as they were bent/ snapped. got all 8 only 41 pence +vat and new copper washers. Hopefully it will be running by the weekend.

Right put new seals and bolts in but was still the same, Bit the bullit today and it went into Citreon for a diagnostic £35 he reset the engine and checked the coding of the injectors. he spent an hr dianosing and told me to take it away cos he had reset the faults with the previous injector fault. when he called me in the back he showed me and it sounded soo much better, but still a slight Knock from one injector. it ran smooth :rolleyes:.the other diagnostic people not being able to reset the faults caused me an extra 70 quid. but will wait and see what happens the the next few weeks. Soo my advice is take it to Citreon for the first diagnostic and go from there. hope it helps
