Guest Gretna Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Hi, Im a newbie to this forum malarkey so please excuse any formalities I have missed. The crux of the matter is a few weeks ago I replaced the plastic shell or case (which ever is correct) of one of my C3s plip locking keys, (the rubber area on the button had worn through but the spare key is like new and is working ok so Ive been using that). Now as far as I know the battery has not been disconnected from the circuit board, but after fitting the new shell the key remotely locks and unlocks the doors, activates the dead-locks, turns on and off the alarm, fits the ignition, turns the ignition on and turns the engine over but the engine will not fire. Ive tried doing what the hand book instructs you to do when changing batteries but that has no effect on the none working key. I have found the if I start the car with the good key stop the engine put the bad key in the ignition the car will start and run ok until the key is removed then it is back to square one with it not working again (you seem to have about 20 seconds to do this, any more and it doesnt work)Ive tried various button pushing methods of trying to register the key with the car and have tried the one mentioned on this forum (the one that involves sitting in the car holding the lock button while the key is in the ignition and the ignition turned on none work.Is it time to dig deep and go to the dealers and see if they can sort it or is there anything I am missing.Oh by the way it's a Citroen C3 1.4 HDi Desire 5dr on a 52 plate. Guest Talmos Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Hi, I'm guessing you've forgot to change over the transponder from the old keyfob. This allows the car to recognize the key and start the car. It's a little black rectangular unit, inside the corner of the fob just next to the key blade. Sit's in a slot just made for it. It's not connected to the electronic button/battery pad, totally separate. I've also changed the keyfob covers as my main keyfob was very soft/worn, and noticed this little unit in the process, asked the Citroen dealer when they were recoding the spare key about this. Cheers Peter Quote
