Weird Electricals

Hope someone can help with this.

 

I have a Xantia diesel estate on X plate. Over the past 6 months it's developed an odd electrical fault (which is getting worse) and I've already determined that all fuses are OK. Front N/S lights don't work (apart from fogs), O/S electric window doesn't work, heated rear screen doesn't work, rear wiper doesn't work. These faults have come one after the other in fairly rapid succession. The dash also tends to display various warning lights intermittently and - as far as I can tell - inaccurately. The needles - rev, temp, speedo etc - are fine.

 

There are, however, two known issues:

 

Indicator stalk. When indicating left, if I push down as normal the indicator doesn't work but the dash icon flashes quickly. I have to give the stalk a gentle nudge upwards, at which point it works properly.

At the top of the boot, on one side there's an exposed area showing some of the wiring loom, where the rubber casing has split. I can't see any breaks in there, but of course that doesn't mean there aren't any.

 

Has anyone else had the electrics go haywire like this? And is it/can it be an expensive or problematic thing to fix?
