stanman1 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 hi all, is it possible to repair a failed oil pressure warning light on an 05 van? ive stripped out the small bit of dash and found that there are no bulbs in there but there are an abundance of lcd's!! the oil light has not worked for some time and the first i knew of it was when the engine management light came up. i have cleaned the oil pan in the sump and now the oil is getting back up to the cam shaft but i still have no oil light and i cant get the management light out does it need to go on a diagnostic m/c to get that light out and the oil light to come back on? cheers for any help, regards, stanman :( Quote
stanman1 Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 update:- management light is now out but still no oil light when i turn ignition on! i have been told some later cars now have a system in place where the oil light does not come up until there is a fault? i would have thought this was a dangerous method of keeping an eye on your engine condition but nether the less is this the system in place on these vehicles? the hand book is not very helpful so any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. if someone else has got a berlingo van could you just let me know if your oil light comes on as soon as you turn your ignition on? cheers , stanman :( Quote
Guest Joel E Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 My light turns on but I have an 00 Berlingo. In my old beetle days, I once had to change an oil sensor on the crankcase to fix the same problem you have. I have a Haynes manual on the way from Amazon, covering the 96-05 Berlingos, and I'll get back to you if I find anything in it related to your problem. Quote

stanman1 Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 i suppose it is possible that the oil light switch is gummed up in the {off light} position? is there any way of checking the diode on the dash or the wiring circuit for that particular light. on older cars you could earth the wire out going to the oil pressure switch and with the ignition turned on the light should come up! with these modern circuits and diodes involved i'm not sure if you could use the same technique? any citroen boffins out there to help solve this? stanman Quote
stanman1 Posted August 5, 2010 Author Posted August 5, 2010  i thought there would have been at least one person out there to help me solve this dilemma! are all the boffins on holiday? anyway! i have found out there should be voltage on both sides of the diode [with engine running] and if there is not it means the diode is broken. i must also see if there is voltage at the wire where it goes into the oil pressure switch first. if there is no voltage at the switch [with ign on] it means there is a break in the wiring or a bad connection somewhere in the loom between the battery supply and the switch. i'm told i'm only looking at 5 to 10 volts, the range needed to make an l.e.d. operate  Quote

Still waiting on the Hanynes manual, but as you may know, there should be a 0.7 volt drop over the LED when it lights. Quote
Guest Joel E Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 The Haynes manual has arrived. The oil pressure warning light switch is located at the front of the cylinder block, above the oil filter mounting or screwed into the oil filter housing. The oil level sensor on petrol engines is on the front side of the cylinder block, adjacent to the oil filter housing. On diesel engines, it is a the rear of the cylnder block on the left-hand end. According to the manual, the LEDs cannot be renewed independently. The manual includes detailed instructions for removing the instrument panel too I paid 9.45 for mine at Amazon (plus 3.50 for shipping to Sweden). Quote
Guest womble Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Bought a 54 Berlingo Multispace 2.0HDI about 6 weeks ago. According to the owners manual, the oil light is supposed to be on r.h.s. of instrument cluster. This light, if indeed there is one, does not light when ignition is first switched on. In 30+ years of driving I hve never encountered this before, my local Cit. dealer hasn't got a f**king clue either. Parked next to another 'lingo driver last week and we compared notes, seems his oil=pressure light doesn't illuminate on turning on the ignition either, that left two of us totally baffled. Can only deduct that either this is how it is or that there are quite a few motors out there without oil-pressure lights working. On further delving, the A.B.S. light does not work either, a trip under the bonnet and I can only see pipes straight from the master cylinder to each corner of the vehicle and no ABS modulator block. Easily solved, my motor does not have ABS fitted. Slightly retro, I thought all so called modern motors had ABS, but then again it also has a radio/cassette and who uses cassettes these days. Could have been worse, might have had an 8-track fitted. Quote
