Guest cackhanded Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 I have a 2005 berlingo,35,000 mls 1.9 diesel motor. It has been relatively faultless for the 3yrs i've owned it,however it has suddenly developed a disturbing engine knock,it sounds like it's coming from the top of the engine and it came on very suddenly. There appears to be no power loss, there's no smoke from the exhaust.I checked all the fluid levels as soon as it happened and they were all fine. Is this a common fault with this type of engine? any advice, suggestions would be most welcome. Incidentally,i took it to my local garage to have the noise assessed, the mechanic could not recognise the problem and is currently making enquiries with a diesel engine specialist. Quote
lemsworld Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Sorry I don't have an answer for you but just wanted to let you know of another new berlingo forum it's www.berlingoforum.co.uk someone may have an answer on there Lliam Quote
KirriePete Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 My '03 103,000 miler has been known to go all 'knackered Transit' every now and then - a switch off, leave it for 5 minutes and restart usually cures the sound. I've been told it's something to do with the ECU throwing a wobbly and putting the system in 'limp home' mode. If yours is stuck like that I'd suggest you get the ECU interrogated to see what error it thinks it's got, pretty sure it's not a mechanical fault, these engines are pretty much bombproof, although you could have the sole Friday afternoon special .......
