Guest mike lomas Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Hello fellow members!I've just bought a 2004 Multispace. I want to be able to transport 2 bicycles upright in the back (front wheels removed, rear double seat removed?). But is it possible? Has anyone done it? Quote
Guest womble Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Don't know the answer, but I am asking a similar question to you... Just bought a '54 lingo multispace and considering doing the same. Hanging them off the tow bar means the tailgate can't be used and they are open to getting stolen. Anyone any ideas/suggestions????? Quote
Guest bigsacs Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Hi, I've opted for a towbar mounted rack. Its made by Pendle and bolts on between the towball and back of the vehicle (£24 on ebay, £120 normally). It can carry up to 4 bikes but l've only tried up to three so far. It has a steel loop for a cable lock. Its probably more secure than just placing them inside as the windows could easily be smashed by determined theives and the bikes stolen. It takes about 2 minutes to remove the bikes, take off the rack supports and get access to the boot. Not ideal but of course it also keeps the mucky bikes outside of the clean car and still lets you carry 5 people. I thought about a roof mounted rack but its just too much of a stretch!! Guest mike lomas Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Thanks for that, much appreciated. I've actually used both roof bar fittings and rear end fittings on a variety of cars over the years. They all have pros and cons of course.I want to be able to transport 2 lightweight racing bikes in the back of my Berlingo. The thing is I've seen someone removing their bikes upright (front wheels removed) from the back of a Berlingo but this was in France back in the mid-nineties. I wasn't able to look at the actual fittings, but thought 'what a good idea!'.I'd email Citroen themselves to ask what fittings were available for the early Berlingos, but I haven't found their email address yet.Anyway, the search continues....Mike Quote
Guest bigsacs Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Mike, my car prior to the berlingo was an Espace and just what you want was available from renault for the espace. It was a frame which connected onto the rear seat mountings to hold it stable when travelling and the front fork dropouts then sat on them held in place with some quick release skewers. There was also a frame to hold the front wheels. The berlingo is very popular in France, l'll have a look next time l'm there (mid Jan)and post any result. I suppose it'd be possible to may one diy with a bit of thought? xx bigsacs Quote
Guest mike lomas Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 Thanks bigsacs,I'll investigate the espace fitting and see if it may be a possibility. Ultimately I'd be prepared to do a diy jobbut I'd rather not!I'll report back if I see light at the end of the tunnel. Quote
Guest bigsacs Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Mike, The one shown at the address below is along the lines of the espace version. I'm not sure if its a suitable fit for the berlingo. Great site for cycling bits n bobs. www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=39583 Good luck. bigsacs Quote
