C2 1.4 Furio Sensodrive Gearbox Issues

Hi people,

I have a friend who is having a problem with her 1.4 sensodrive c2.

It is fine in reverse, but revs high and goes no where in drive, she was driving it the other day and it just could get speed up, been recovered to nationwide garage, i know not the best but are the garage of choice for the extended warranty people :). Halfords have said its a new gearbox £2000, warranty company wont pay out as they value the car at £1700, its 53 plate 80,000 miles.

My question is, would a gearbox from a normal 1.4 manual fit accross? or the gearbox form a 1.6vts sensodrive?

 

If i understand correctly the gearbox is not a true automatic, it still has a clutch and it just controlled by the ecu,

can anyone shed anylight on this, as it seems stupid to break the car over a gearbox as this car is spotless.
