Guest Xantia Pilot Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Last night I noticed a faint high-pitch sound around the back of my Xantia Turbo CT, and this morning the battery was considerably depleted. Thought maybe it was the fuel pump running on after the ignition was shut off, but removing fuse 3 (fuel pump relay) under the bonnet did not stop the noise. Disconnecting the battery earth silences it, but this is neither dignified nor an informative technique. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be the source of the noise (which I can barely hear) or suggestions of where my battery is bleeding to ? Quote
Guest Xantia Pilot Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Further clue deepens the mystery :Pulled each under-bonnet fuse one at a time, using a 5 Watt test light to check when the current draw went away. And this revealed that the leakage current is going through the "HIGH AMPERAGE FUSES" while ignition is off. Specifically, Fuse A (60) is drawing most of it. Fuse B (40) is drawing less, but still enough to raise a pretty fair glow.Fuse C (80) is drawing only a little, and pulses to a modest glow.Fuse D (40) is drawing only a little, and also pulses from barely orange to a modest glow. The only thing the owners'handbook has to say about these, is that one should contact the nearest Citroen dealer if there is a problem with them. Does anyone have documentation on what devices these fuses supply ? Maybe a circuit diagram and a cabling diagram ? Quote
Guest Xantia Pilot Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Got myself a hardy ammeter (I've blown up so many with inrush currents it's not funny). Anyway, turns out that 850 mA is going down the drain into the hydractive circuit, and this is the source of the mysterious whine - probably an accelerometer with a DVDT. The balance (340mA to 890mA - fluctuating between these readings at about 1 second cycle) is primarily going through Fuse A. Fuse 8 can be isolated by a relay in series, with the relay coil energised by the unused F2 (telephone) only while the ignition is on. Will photograph the modification when finished, and make it available by email. Fuse A supplies dashboard circuits, starter solenoid and ignition. Will require a more inventive solution to optimise battery life. Quote
Guest Xantia Pilot Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Ended up using a manual switch to engage & isolate the leaky circuits. So far the 60 amp fuse has been working fine through a 30 Amp relay. Quote
