Guest Kisssara Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Hello everyone, just wondered if anyone knows if the radio slot on a Xsara will accept a shop-bought unit without any dash adaptor. Thought I'd ask before pulling bits away. I have the wiring adaptor. The factory radio/ cassette looks to be the same size as the new CD/ radio I got for Christmas. Many thanks for any input. Happy new year Citroen owners! Keith. Quote

Happy new year Citroen owners! Keith. i think you need to have a canbus adapter as some of the cars settings are done via the radio as they are on my c8. you need to check this as ive heard the the central locking dont work with with an after market radio fitted. I put an aftermarket radio in my C5 (mk 1) without a canbus adaptor and it worked fine, although it didn't come on and off with the ignition , manually turned on and off, no problem really. I couldn't do that on my current mk2 though, as the menu button accesses loads of the car's functions . Have to stay with the facory - fitted unit (Blaupunkt RD4). I don't think this is the case with the Xsara Quote

I presume it goes between the car fitting and the new audio unit but not the same thing as the wiring adaptor I already have. Also, where are they available? Thanks, Keith. Quote
Guest Pete c3 Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 heres a link to show you what one is. depending on the radio fitted there is different adapters. on my c8 i had to have one fitted so i could still use the vehicle settings with an after market radio http://www.nexxia.co.uk/products.asp?category=Steering+Control+Adaptors+Autoleads&Make=Citroen&Model=All_Models&Submit=Quick+Search&Reg= for more info. Multiplex Wiring IssuesThis page gives More Technical information about PSA Multiplex wiring systems (CAN Bus) used in Peugeot and Citroen and the impacts on installation of new head units. From April 2001 manufacturing date, Peugeot and Citroen cars began to utilise a system of internal electronics called the VAN-Bus system. By September 2002 all relevant vehicles feature this. The system is used for interior and convenience features such as dashboard displays, central locking and the Radio. The removal of the original head unit (radio) can cause faults on the VAN-bus network, this may affect the dash board displays and central locking. Any problems caused like this can be resolved by the nearest Citroen or Peugeot dealer who will re-configure the system using diagnostic computer tools. Re-installation of the original head unit will also return the system to normal. The installation of harness adaptors or smart leads does not have any impact on these faults, they must be resolved by the car dealer them selves. We advise any of our customers that have vehicles with this information shown against them to remove their head unit before attempting to install a new head unit Quote

Try connecting it using the standard ISO connector first, and see how it works. PeteC3 - is it possible to use just the standard menu button on the radio to get into things like setting the car clock, selecting directional function on the headlights and all that stuff? Who did your installation? Thanks Quote

Thanks with the factory radio removed you loose some of the vehilve settings, i used a c8 canbus adapter for speed pulse and to help the central locking and the parking sensors working. if you remove the system without eather taking it to a dealer and having it programmed out or having an adapter box the car will report errors because the bsi of the car is looking for somthing thats not there. it happened on my mk2 berlingo. i did my own in about 10 minuets since the box is plug and play.i used this one http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ctsct003-can-bus-steering-control-adaptor.html Quote
