C3 Airbag Warning

Hi All

I tried to register here last year when I had a problem with the Airbag warning lights. Now I have been successful this go round I would appreciate any help. I have had some fun with my Wife's C3 over the years so will try to add some words of wisdom on other issues people have.

Anyway...last year she started to get an airbag warning light on start up that over time was impossible to clear. We had a mobile guy round and he thought it was the deactivation switch (RH side of the dash) but I was sceptical and he also said it could be the control board near the gearstick. Anyway, after much trying of connector and changing the control board I finally gave up and on visiting a local Citroen specialist they changed the switch and amazingly the warning went away. However, over 2010 it has started to re-appear albeit intermittently. For around the alst month it has become solid and I was about to take another look. For some reason she moved the passenger seat yesterday and the error has gone so I am thinking that we have a problem with the connector under the seat. Has anyone else had this issue and is it simply a case of soldering all the wires to eliminate the connector. I appreciate that removing the seat could be a little tricky but I hope we never have to do that. The car is a 52 plate.

Other than that she really likes the car. I find it a little gutless on acceleration for a 1.4 petrol and it needs some welly but I dont have to drive it.

 

FYI other issues fixed have been the replacement of the No.4 fuel injector. Engine management light error and simple fix (water drops from the washer in the bonnet) and also recent new battery as everything would reset on the car on a cold morning.

My airbag warning light came on when my jack russell pup chewed through wires under passenger seat.. Spliced it all back together though...and the pup's ok !!

Thanks..I think I will solder them all together but make sure that I disconnect the battery the night before to ensure there is no charge in the system. Wouldnt want anything going off.

Ok, for the record and in case anyone else gets this problem, this is what I did. I soldered the wires together under both seats. Check the colouring on the wires as it is reversed on the passenger seat. I did one wire at a time and had the battery disconnected. No airbags going off etc.

Switched on...same fault. Thought I would take a look at the passenger airbag switch. This was the previous problem and the guy in the garage changed the switch and it all worked before it re-appeared some months later. Replugged the connector on the switch and fault gone..weyhey! As I wiggled the connector the problem came back. I splayed the 2 pins inside the switch slightly and reconnected. Now seems a better connection and fault gone. If it reappears I will cut back the rear of the switch and solder direct to the legs.

There is another airbag connector at the back of the glove box. You need to remove this (approx 6 torx screws)and this could also be soldered. I havnt resorted to this yet but could be another weak link in the system.

Happy to compare notes if anyone gets this prob as has been a major pain for ages and our big worry was how we would ever sell the thing at some point if the error was there. More importantly, who wants the family driving around with no airbags!

Oh you have been a victim of that as well then. My brothers Staff when a pup done the exactly on his first 52 2003 C3 SX Auto. The Citroen Dealer fixed it for free as a favour to me.
