Guest BrianH Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I have a 54 plate 1.4 Xsara hatchback with just over 53K on the clock (this model). It has recently started making a disconcerting grinding/whining noise when it gets up to 30MPH. At first I thought it was the rear brakes, because they appeared to be sticking on when the car was parked for a few days, but I have had them checked and there is no problem. I have it booked in to the dealership for checking on Monday, but if anyone has come across this before I'd like to be forewarned as to what I might be getting in to. It sounds expensive... Quote
Guest BrianH Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 It sounds expensive... Well, no-one seems to have been able to come up with a suggestion, so I'll report the finding of the garage, in case it helps someone down the line... Problem was diagnosed as a wheel bearing issue, estimated cost £240 including labour and VAT. Hope the warranty covers it... Quote
Guest Chopper Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I had a simialr problem on an X reg Xsara that I recently purchsed and it was indeed the wheel bearing. Luckily I'd just bought it so the dealer had to fix it for me. Quote
