My C5 2.2 Hdi has suddenly developed a loudly creaking noise. I think it may be the suspension. Does this sound familiarto anyone? Its a bit scary!

How old, how many miles, from the front or the rear......does it do it when driving or raising the suspension from low too high? Does it only do it when moving? or getting in and out the car?

The car is 4 yrs old, 61000 miles. The noise is at the rear and underneath. When driving it's typically a metallic sound under the vehicle ( I thought at first that it was a loose plate of some sort). But I'm sure now that it's suspension related. There is now a nasty Rasping sound as the car settles to it's parking position. Are there any clues here? thanks for your interest.

Seems a bit young to have suspension problems., but it could be one or both of the rear suspension bearings.....assuming of course the it isnt a heatshield arround the exhaust resting on the subframe

Thanks KFK, I don't know about the heat shield although I did suspect this at first but theres a definate loud rasping when the car settles and manually raising the rear of the car produces a creaking sound at the wheel arches but only if the engine is running.

you say a metallic noise , would you say a metal bang or clunk?

as for the creaking was that the suspension lowering the vehicle to setting when you got out, if so i have the same problems any clues please.

the rear does seem weak and i wondered if a sphere was low.
