In my opinion I would avoid putting Continentals on Citroens - they work well on VW's but not on the C5 - they wear very quickly - in less than 5000 miles the side walls had worn - I had to replace them at 10000 by which time they were smooth! I wondered if there was a problem with the suspension - but they said nothing was wrong - apart from my brakes - which may have contributed to excessive wear. However I now have Falken - and initially thought this was a budget/economy brand. But they are wearing well - no sign so far of any wear at 3000 miles which is good on a c5. The tyre walls are especially wearing well. Also a good quiet ride from them and quite safe - even in the wet. I was recommended these tyres and also was told that Hankook are very good tyres.

Had my car serviced at Citroen yesterday and asked them to investigate the problem - finally they found it - I need a new MAT (Manifiold Air Temperature) Sensor. £73 fitted. Hopefully this should cure it! I will report back!

When I get the car serviced I will get them to check - I think the fault is mileage based as I did much higher miles last week than I normally do and it came 2 days earlier ! Can I also point out that I have noticed a slighltly artificial feel to the way the throttle works - almost like smoothing the revs - I assume this is the same as all cars - as if they have tuned the throttle to be very smooth - but it feels sometimes as if that affects the cars power as you move through the gearbox - when it nears the time when the fault occurs - it feels even more artificial. Before the fault occurs as well turbo lag increases too.

I think I will just have to live with it - mine is H3 so has no sport button - I think it is just one of the quirks of the suspension - I have driven hydropneumatic Citroens for the past 15 years and never had any problems at all (and this cannot be considered a fault really) - however all of them seem to have a mind of their own and decide themselves when they have a 'good ride day' or not !! I am sure we are all a little bit hypersensitive when it comes to the way they drive - afterall we probably all buy these Citroens because of the way they ride/drive. My front tyres are due to be replaced as well and I know that having new tyres plus balancing and tracking done can make a huge difference to how it feels - far more marked difference to when the tyres are changed on a steel suspension.

HELP I have a 2.0 HDI (138) manual - with a bizarre problem which can't be found - At least at the dealers anyway The car drives perfectly well - throughout the gears no problems whatsoever until every 9 days whilst driving the car there is a sudden drop in power - if it were a petrol it would be like a spark plug missing - It is worst a low speeds when you need to keep the revs artificially high to keep it going and the same pulling away - it bunny hops at all speeds - one moment there is a gap in power and then it jerks and moves away - all the time the engine sounds a bit like on older diesel - i can hear tappets. It happens at any speed - But I can still drive it fast it is a little more bearable at higher speeds in 6th but you can feel the car jerking/bunny hoping. All this happens over a distance of about 4 miles probably just under 10 minutes - then the engine goes back to normal. It does this every 9 days as I have said almost like clockwork and has done for 5 months - the dealer has put it on diagnostic testing but cannot find any fault codes whatsoever - and needless to say it never happens when they test it. Any ideas???

I have a 2005 Citroen (second one) and last Saturday had to replace the nearside bulb - what a performance - have to remove the whole battery to do that. Well that went ok - and following this drove the car - and for 5 days the suspension had completely changed - It was far softer - in fact far better to drive than it every has been - In every road condition it rode better - exactly the way it should drive in my experience. However it has now reverted back to how it was before I removed battery - (might be just coincidence) The ride is still ok - but not how it should be - Almost as if it is hard when it needs to be soft and soft when it needs to be harder. Would love to have the suspension ride like it was a few days ago - anyone know if it is a problem with suspension???

Do you mean touch the postive lead onto the negative lead? Won't this fry the alternator or electrics? Sounds dangerous - Presumably you touch it very quickly so as not to cause any probs.

Try putting it into snow mode in this cold weather - I find mine is much smoother - The Auto Box is ZF I believe and so should be very reliable

I am sure this has been mentioned before but I am getting fed up with the annoying creaking on my windows in the C5 - If I have cleaned the car properly it is perfect but then if it rains during the night for example then the creaks start. I usually spray under the seals with WD40 and it improves slightly and I can't keep cleaning the windows every time it rains. Has anyone else had this problem and more importantly got a solution?

I have done over 100k in my C5 Estate and was considering replacing the spheres - however my tyres needed replacing and so I went to Bathwick Tyres and had all 4 tyres replaced with Michelin Pilot Primacys - Since I have owned the car the it has never had the same tyres on all wheels and not Michelins because most of the time they are too expensive. But at Bathwick they were only £165 for a pair fitted and balanced and the tracking/alignment done. They also did this for rears as well. The point I am making is this - since then I have done about 1000 miles and the ride has never been better. It is probably the best it has been since I bought it - the only criticism I have is that there is a little too much body roll in corners at low speeds and roundabouts and can be a tad too much float at high speed roads. The most important improvement though is the town ride which is very soft and for the first time silent! Interesting to see that some people think the Xantia ride is better than the C5 - now I am convinced the C5 is better especially considering the mileage I've done. I have decided the C5 is very sensitive to the tyres you put on it and get the tracking done regularly and the ride is much better. (Also make sure you have topped up the Hydractive Fluid which you can buy from Citroen)
