  1. Would like to do myself but have no tools and time. Costs are about the same I looked around. Thats the trouble, you dont know if anything else needs doing until they take it in bits. Thanks
  2. Hi, i know it's one of the questions - how long is peace of string. Got 55reg C4 1.4 petrol (49k miles on the clock). Head gasket is failing, its leaking water quite badly now (oild is fine, engine is not smoking). It's result of overheating about a year ago. Now I have dilema on either to try to repair it or just scrap it. Has put too much money so far (new water pump, new alternator, now O2 sensor in 18 months alone + wheels need balancing, door has been bent, bumber scratched, 3rd brake light's gone-broken wiring). Any ideas what are estimate costs of that kinda job? Thank you.
  3. Actually just recently whilst sorting other probs local garage quoted £50 which is more realstic!
  4. Car is in the garage. Awaiting the verdict :( I do suspect its gasket now. Seems that some sort of thermostat failed first by not kicking the fan in time to cool the engine that resulted in gasket failure cause now its spiting tiny bit of water the oil cap (when the cap is off). Not been lucky with C4. Just had it for a year. Wife's done just around 3000 miles but already starter and water pump replaced. O2 sensor needs changing. Third brake light went busted. And now the cooling sistem and whole engine is caput. Had C5 (52 reg 1.8 petrol) before and never had problems. Grrrrrr. Will let you know what the garage said.
  5. As per request - update - - - - > The brake light is still of - wiring broken (where wires go from the body to the boot lid; in the rubery casing). Citroen quoted £350 to fix it. It will wait.
  6. Its 1.4 petrol. The brake light is still of - wiring broken (where wires go from the body to the boot lid; in the rubery casing). Citroen quoted £350 to fix it. It will wait. The odd thing is that it was fine for two months since water pump was replaced until this Sunday I decided to check coolant level and too the cap off (did few times before since it's been fixed-never had probs). Had a short trip to the shop (20min in total) and since then coolant is just shooting from under the cap! Took the cap off this morning and there is like black plastic "cover" inside with which looks like two little valves (dont know the technical name for it :) ). The black "thingy" is very wobly inside the cup. Temp gauge rarely gets into three bars - most of the time stays in two.
  7. Hi, just recently replaced the water pump un 55reg C4 hatch. Yesterday noticed that after I've parked car coolant is leaking from under the expansion tank cap. No other leaks. Today - after short drive - the same. Engine is going fine, no overheating; nothing unusual. Could that be case of dodgy cap as garage replaced to different? Any ideas? Thanks
  8. Rest of the brake lights work. Hadn't looked at the numberplate. However - in the manual I cant see any fuses for lights. I'll take the car to the garage tomorrow, hopefully they will be able to sort it out. So update is coming.
  9. UPDATE - - - turns out there is no light in the boot too. So it means it's not a light bulb but something else. Fuse?
  10. Hi, 3rd brake light has gone (Citroen C4 Hatchback 55 reg) In owner's manual it says - to contact Citroen dealership to replace it etc. Has anyone came across it? How to replace it? Is it something I can do or better leave for specialists on how much it might cost. Thanks
  11.
  12. Did MOT recently. Passed. They gave advisory Notice where it said - osf shocker damp. Can anyone explain what does it mean?
  13. I had a look today. Removed that black cover. (First of all have to un-screw air filter and then there is a screw on a right side.) Oil comes from "breather"(as far as I remember it was called). It could be oil vapour coming from engine and it condensates in air filter tube and then leaks. That my discovery so far. Don't have any clue why it's so. But I'll have a word with a guy from a garage what he thinks.
  14. And does any one know how to remove that plastic cover?
  15. But is it something I have to act urgently or it's not so serious?
