  1. So, it's not really free - also the power's got to come from somewhere - your fuel tank! I've noticed that the only part of the bonnet thats warm after driving at night is the part over the headlamps. Says something for the efficiency of the HDi engine (and the inefficiency of the lamps). Tim
  2. Dunno about the petrol, but the 1.4HDi is also used in the Ford Fiesta. Apparently it's not as good, though :) Tim
  3. Hi 66595mirror Sorry to hear about your alternator woes. I guess I was in a slightly different position, in that I had taken out an RAC extended warranty when buying the car, so I didn't care how much it cost to get back on the road. But still ended up waiting ~4 weeks for Citroen to get the part. However, on the "CitroensForSale" Yahoo Group, kevinfulcher45 suggested: There must be similar outfits up and down the country. Gotta be worth a try and probably quicker than waiting for Citroen to get their "back order" act together. Tim
  4. I notice there's another one on eBay, if anyone's still after one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...7968031613&rd=1 Tim
  5. I got some Citroen roof bars, which are pretty nice, and an old Karrite box (about 300 litre). It looks a bit rough, but not too stupid. It is very high, and difficult to reach without standing on a box or door sill, unless you're tall. Roofboxes can actually extend a long way back on a C3, because the boot never reaches anywhere vertical when open (try it!). Haven't tried it at speed yet. :( Tim http://tim.zymurgy.org/IMG_3863_small.JPG http://tim.zymurgy.org/IMG_3864_small.JPG http://tim.zymurgy.org/IMG_3865_small.JPG
  6. Two years on and after a lot of hard work, the Haynes manual for the C3 is nearing publication... From Haynes' website: Can't wait... Tim
  7. Anyone know what's involved in retro-fitting a trip computer? Mine doesn't have one. Unless I'm missing something!
  8. Finally got the car back on the road. Synopsis: Alternator failed on car <2yrs old. Independent garage ordered one from Main Dealer. Not available from stock, so placed on 'Back Order'. No estimate of expected time of delivery provided (until I harrassed them). And then it was 4 weeks from ordering. Just for a f***ing alternator! After much chasing, this reduced to 3 weeks. But was 3 days late! Citroen Customer Service were 'less than helpful' on the phone - suggesting I could only pursue it with the dealer - so what are they for? And very slow to respond by email - only answering after order resolved. No-one explained that a hire car could be made available until asked. And then it needed 48hrs notice for 'authorisation by Citroen'. And that never came through. No compensation was offered. (A free service would be nice.) Grrr... :(
  9. Thanks for the suggestion, Ian. I have tried them (amongst many others) by email, but received no response. Tim
  10. Hi Dunno about 67MPG. We'd driven ours about 67 miles in our "new" C3 - July 2003 HDi LX model with only 68000 miles on the clock - when the alternator packed in. This was accompanied by a strong burning smell, flashing warning lights, followed by the battery light. It's currently in our local independent Citroen specialists awaiting a new alternator. Unfortunately Citroen don't have any in the country!! So it's on "back order", and they can't even give a date for delivery  Unbelievable they don't stock such a common part! And what's so special about the C3 one, anyway - unless it's a Stop and Start one - which its not - more like a Stop and Stop one. At least it's burnt 0 litres of fuel in the last week! Cheers Tim
  11. I actually won that one on eBay <_<. So I'll be able to tell you in a few days whether it fits. Just as soon as the C3 gets back from the garage after an alternator failure. And we've only driven it for about 150 miles! Good start! Just glad I got an extended warranty... Talking of scappies, I notice someone is breaking a C3 on eBay and is auctioning the postage on any 1 item. Strange format, but I suppose its cheap advertising! Tim
  12. HI Anyone know whether Xsara roof bars will fit a C3? Cheers Tim
  13. Further, Does anyone know if roofbars from a Xsara will fit a C3? Tim
  14. Thanks Mark (and Ian!) I spotted that one on eBay - hence my question about when they changed the designs. Or I suppose I could try a scappy... Cheers Tim
  15. I just phoned a certain Reg Vardy Citroen parts department, and was quoted £53.10+VAT for a moduboard. But he wanted to know the chasis number of my car, as apparently there are 2 slightly different designs. So, I'm looking for a second hand one. Any offers? Also, anyone know when they changed over designs? Mine is a C3 LX HDi from July 2003. Cheers Tim
  16. Hi Has anyone fitted roof bars other than Citroen's to a C3? Any recommendations? Also, anyone fitted a roof box? Any idea how long it could be before: a ) You can't open the boot :o b ) It looks stupid :D c ) It takes off :o Seems like the curved roofline could make for interesting aerodynamics. Any recommendations would be welcome, photos even more so! Cheers, Tim
  17. Good to know - and I thought it was just me being forgetful! Tim
