  1. Welcome to the fold Dave and I hope you enjoy your new drive :-) Don't know about anyone else but whenever I buy a car, the first thing I do is get the cambelt sorted regardless of make, age and mileage. Way way cheaper than finding out the hard way! I've had mainly trouble-free motoring out of my 2.0hdi estate and its still going strong after over 220,000 miles. I've found fleabay to be a good resource for parts (new intercooler for £90 anyone??) and a more comfortable car you will not find for the money. Hope this helps Jon :-)
  2. Its now just the undertray I'm after,I'll give you a call. Cheers Jon
  3. Pleeeeease tell me you've got the engine undertray??? Oh and a N/S front seatbelt and the exhaust centre section??? You'll be my friend for life!!! ;-) Jon
  4. 221000 on my 02 hdi estate.....Still racking them off as I commute between Dorset and South Yorkshire :-)
  5. Thanks Paul!
  6. Hi all, My 2.0 hdi estate has failed the mot on, amongst other things a hole in the rearmost part of the centre section of the exhaust. If you do an ebay search then the centre pipe can be found in germany for around £17. But...now upon further investigation i've read that the centre pipe of the mk1 c5's houses the catalytic converter and is more like £170! Can anyone clarify what the different exhaust sections consist of and where exactly the cat converter is located? I've trawled through this site but can't find anything on it.. Jon :-)
  7. Mine - 02 C5 estate 2.0hdi 221000 miles and going strong - well when its mot'd Wife's - 03 C5 Exclusive 2.0hdi 160000 and going strong.. Love em!
  8. Tell me about it lol! I'm desperately trying to find one after mine made a break for it at 70mph! Now its failed the Mot cos the plastic inner arches are snagging on the front wheels - £130 for a new undertray not good news...Unless anyone can see how best to secure inner arches to something else but I can't see anywhere obvious. At this rate I might have to 'borrow' the one on the ex wife's C5 one night hahaha Jon
  9. Don't know if this applies to your situation but I was having the same problem with my 2.0HDi....I let it develop until one day it gave up and I had to replace two broken rockers and other bits that got chewed - about £500's worth. Might be a good idea to have it checked out as it might save you a fortune.. Hope this helps :-) Jon
  10. Well I'll be blowed. (sorry) Two weeks she's gone without a blower and suddenly its come back to life! I'll see how long it lasts this time. Jon
  11. Hi all, My dearest wife  has a 03 2.0 HDi exclusive which she loves but misses her rear wiper that her old car had as it seems she has not yet discovered the joys of wing mirrors. ;) I'm sure I saw a hatch C5 with a rear wiper sometime back so my question is: Can it be done, is it a retro - fit job or would the cost and hassle be too much? Please help........I'm getting ear ache. Jon
  12. You just got to love this forum!!! The wife's HDI Exclusive has the same problem - so I will head to my friendly dealer and order the part. Thanks to all for the info - much appreciated! Jon
  13. Well after 10 years on nothing but motorcycles, back in the summer I took the plunge and got myself a C5. All that time I have been a named driver on the wife's insurance (unrelated ins. company). So you can imagine trying to get my own insurance with no no-claims bonus (even at the ripe old age of 40) was shocking to say the least. So when RAC offered me 5 years no claims to go with them I bit their hands off! The deal was if I stay with them for 2 years I can take the NCB with me. If I leave before that time then they'll keep it. It made a huge difference and it was nice to see a company take my driving record into account even though I was only a named driver. If you're in the same boat then they're recommended!! Jon :)
  14. Ooh Ooh I know this one!!!! Having just gone to a lot of trouble to get my audio entertainment how I want it, you have a few choices. 1, Do as myglaren says and get one of those FM tuner thingys - cheapest and perfectly good for the job. 2, If your car does not have the cd changer fitted but does have the button for it on the radio, then do a search for 'connects2' dot com and for roughly 75 quid you can get a gizmo that will utilise the cd changer output and convert it to a mp3/ipod socket somewhere in the car which means you don't have to lose the stereo. Plus you'll not lose the display on the dash. 3, I wanted a usb socket in the car to play my music from a memory stick and the only way to do that was to change the stereo completely for one with usb connection. A bit of a minefield plus you need to get a wiring adaptor from Citroen (4 quid) but now my stick is connected to a usb cable in the glove compartment out of sight and I have access to my 29 hours of music without a single cd or ipod in the car. Whole thing cost roughly £200 to set up but well worth it. Or if you really want to keep up with the times, why not invest in one of those gps jobbies with the bluetooth and FM transmitter built in? Download all your music onto a memory card that fits the gps, then tune in to your stereo, then you have your music, phone and navigation all through one unit. Hope this helps! Jon
  15. Well I managed to find a audio specialist that was willing to take the plunge and they fitted the stereo today. So far so good - I supplied the Citroen interface lead but as it turned out they tried it with the lead in and with it out and it didn't make any difference. They've left the lead in situ just in case. The only thing they cannot work out is that it is not possible to turn off the stereo with the ignition. Everything else (central locking, lights, air-con etc. that I'd been warned about is working fine. I've got a nice usb port in the glove compartment now so I can plug my memory stick in and keep my entire cd collection with me in the car. Well pleased! Jon
  16. Well I've done more digging and 90% of reponces from people in the trade say don't do it. Which is a bugger because I just bought nice new stereo for it! I'm going to try it anyway - so I'll post results when its done. Jon
  17. Thanks for that, I was wondering. :P Jon
  18. Rick I just had my 2.0 hdi fixed after loosing power when cold - sounds similar. My problem was a failed air mass meter. Might be a good idea to get the car on a diagnostic just to rule it out if nothing else. Hope this helps Jon
  19. Thanks again Randombloke! You don't happen to wear a cape and fly around fixing people's C5 woes??? :P :) Jon
  20. Hi all, my OEM cd player behaves for about 10 minutes then will pause the track for a couple of seconds before restarting. After a further 10 mins its doing it every 30 seconds or so. :( So I'm going to replace the head unit with another brand. One with a usb port in the front. I've bought the facia adapter already (£4.99 on ebay :P ) and went into Halfords to choose a replacement. After much lip sucking on the part of the salesman he said I would need conversion cables from Citroen because if I don't my headlights will not work. Really????? Can anyone advise if this is the case? I know it would affect the steering control and the multi-function screen but if its going to make the whole car unsafe then I'll buy a walkman!! Many thanks Jon
  21. On my SX estate you get a ping when selecting reverse. (no sensors) The wife's exclusive which does have sensors doesn't ping but after a short delay beeps once then goes through the normal sensor process. Is it just me or does anyone else reverse back and just at the critical moment as the beeps flatline knock it into neutral then panic and slam the brakes on? Thought not.......... Jon
  22. Just for info purposes I've spent a small fortune on the estate and also got to the bottom of the lack of power. Two problems were found, although the dealer wasn't sure which was contributing more. The main problem was the failure of the air mass meter. (£85 to replace) the other problem was faulty wiring to the 'EGR' (whatever that is:). They pressure tested the intercooler and it was fine. So the car now pulls correctly from cold and I'm well impressed with the livelyness of the engine now. Makes me realise I was loosing quite a lot of power in general - economy is much better now. So if anyone's suffering from lack of power issues these might be worth a try. Jon
  23. Nice one randombloke! I'll get on it. Cheers Jon
  24. Hmmmm interesting. My 02 2.0 HDi estate which I picked up at the weekend seems to suffer from a similar problem. Except that the turbo is always late for the party! From cold (only time it does it) for the first mile or so there's no turbo reaction then all of a sudden in she comes and she's fine after that. I do let the car idle for a good minute before driving. I was fishing through the service history and found a recent invoice with the following advisory....."Turbo Intercooler leaking" Could this be related? and is it as expensive as it sounds??? The car was mega cheap to buy plus we already have an 03 exclusive with no problems at all. Cheers Jon
  25. Hi all, new boy here! I bought a 2.0 HDi 'Exclusive' back in june on an 03 plate. The wife got hold of it and now I can't get a look in so I'm off to pick up an 02 2.0 Hdi estate tomorrow. So far every exclusive I've seen has had a different spec - for instance, mine is different to all those mentioned here. No Xenon, no badge on the pillar, no GPS. But it has got the wood, leather, cd changer, park sensors etc. just about right I reckon. That would explain a loaded c5 I've seen with climate control and a sunroof.....:(My last car was an XM (8 years ago) and I loved that car so I'm glad to be back! Jon
