  1. Thanks Paul, i might just do that... I wasn't giving it away, as much as i'd like too, but i'm well aware that it probably has a very low value... I'm sure i have his number in an old phone somewhere.
  2. Citroen C5 1.6 Hdi Estate, 2006, Burgundy, 105k miles. Had a new battery at the turn of the year. Just spent £150 on two new rear spheres and LDS fluid, one sphere is on, the other is unused. Had a fluid leak on o/s/r corner, sphere is replaced (was intent in changing the other at the same time) but there is still a leak from the seal. Mechanic tells me it also needs a suspension ram (the bit the sphere mounts on to?), and although he hasn’t checked the other side, suggests there is a likelihood it too would need doing soon. Car was classed as a Category C after an accident in Sept 2016, the only work done to restore was replacing the n/s/f wing, and strapping the headlamp in place. The only other evidence of the accident is some scuffing to that corner of the bumper, and that the Bluetooth stopped working. The rear windscreen was replaced last summer by Autoglass, they tell me that the glass breaking also breaks the electrical circuit to the lock for the split tailgate and as a result forces that to remain locked. They have bonded the new glass to the tailgate, so the split function no longer works. They also broke the rear wiper in the process of disassemble and reassemble. It has been glued back on but no longer works. Apart from the above absolutely everything still works. The AC could probably do with a recharge but that too is still pretty good. No electrical, engine or transmission problems in the 3 years I’ve owned it. Upholstery has no burns, tears or other holes, a few signs of reasonable wear but nothing heavy. It didn’t look like it had smoked in when I got it, and hasn’t been since. Bodywork is pretty good too, only sign of rust is some light bubbling above o/s/f wheel arch. There are a few dings received in supermarket car parks but nothing unsightly. Most look more like scuffs, some might even polish out. Car was in everyday use until the fluid leak, although it did have a repair earlier this year to a power steering fluid supply. I asked in here about it at the time, but I don’t seem to be able to find that post. Car has never been thrashed, the C5 isn’t really a thrashers car, is it… Strikes me as a car someone could use for spares, although it is possible for someone with skills to put it right again. Car is currently taxed, insured and the MOT runs for 3 more weeks. It’s a good, honest car, too good for scrap. Selling because I have struggled for years to live on disability benefits, which often come with interruptions. If I was earning it would be kept running but I’ve finally come to accept I can no longer afford to keep a car running. I looked at a lot of bad C5s before finding this one, you guys in here have helped me a few times with both this and my previous C5, only natural I offer it up here first… I’ll get out for some photos later today, I also have retained photos of the accident damage, if there is interest.
  3. Just noticed you haven't been online since March...
  4. Steve, i was just about to post this when i saw your post... any interest to you? Citroen C5 1.6 Hdi Estate, 2006, Burgundy.Had a new battery at the turn of the year. 5. Kind of worrying... my C5 has smelt a bit sooty these last couple of weeks, i thought it was down to using supermarket fuel (Morrisons), but having used it all up and returned to my regular Shell the sooty smell is still around. It's due its MOT in a couple of months... Surely the MOT test tester isn't carrying out a visual test of smoke levels?
  6. i came across this tonight... https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/uk-news/2018/05/16/drivers-confused-by-new-mot-test/
  7. sorry, didn't get back to the car or to here because of poor health... it was about a week before i got back to it, the suspension had settled in its natural position ;-)
  8. Many thanks... i'll try that tomorrow... I perhaps should have said, I can hear the pump running, it runs for longer than is usual, perhaps inevitable if it's not moving. The switches don't seem to have any effect, indicator comes up on the screen suggesting it's at least trying to move. Update since earlier... after a few more runs up and down the street the suspension has now raised, looking from outside i'd say it looks a little higher than usual but not as high as the top setting. A drive around the scheme feels normal, when it would feel high to the driver if it was on top setting. Switches again seem to have no effect except kick the pump into life and screen indicators that it's trying to go. I'm with you, it might right itself overnight or need a little more air to come out, in which case it'll need a little more fluid...
  9. I've a 2006 1.6HDi estate which had a fluid leak from a power steering pipe. The pipe has been fixed, 3 litres of LDS into the reservoir, but the suspension won't right itself. The rear is all the way down, if i were to go any distance it would likely foul the arch. Front looks as though it's at normal ride height. On the LCD display in the centre of the dash, the display seems to indicate that the car thinks it's at the top level, with the speed warning of 5mph. AIUI, driving above this speed should cause the suspension to raise to normal ride height, but when i tried going up and down the street at about 15 mph it still doesn't right itself. I've tried disconnecting the battery to reset the electrics, but that doesn't improve things. It's probably something simple i've not though of, but i'm scratching my head here, anyone got any ideas?
  10. Thought i'd place this here first, since you guys might be more understanding... The rear suspension has now dropped to the floor, huge spillage of fluid. Difficult to get under it for a good look, but would appear to be the sphere which has corroded. It was due its MOT at the end of the month, had it booked in for this Thursday, but now will be selling it for spares or repairs. I've owned it the past 5 years, it didn't look like it'd been smoked in before, and hasn't been since i've owned it. I have all the MOTs since ownership, plus any receipts for parts bought. Engine, turbo and gearbox are all good, despite the 134,000 miles on the clock. Timing belt was changed at 118,000, and a part rebuild of the engine too. Upholstery is all good, doesn't show much sign of age, no tears, burns, anything like that. Exterior has a few scuffs etc, nothing unusual for its age, but is generally sound. Has had a new battery a couple of months ago, and i also have a spare n/s/f wishbone which was bought in error last year. Was used daily until last week, i was expecting to replace a couple of bulbs and a couple of tyres for its MOT. Rain is chucking down just now, i'll take some pictures in the morning for anyone who is interested. Happy to answer any other questions interested parties might have. West Lothian area...
  11. I shoulda said, my cr is a MkI 2003 2.0 Hdi...
  12. My alternator needs replacing, but i seem to have a problem finding the right one. The one which came off is the Valeo CL15 model, which has two bolt-on cables, but the only ones i can find have one bolt-on and one plug-in cables. A local breaker has supplied me a CL9 model, it too has one bolt-on and one plug-in cable Anyone able to tell me if these are compatible, and if so, what's required to change the wiring... Or where i can get one with the two bolt-on cables? TIA
  13. Thanks Stevie, both will be needed in that case...
  14. Many thanks Paul... i've just learned that he's now broke it trying to free the cable... is that a Citroen only part? (the sleeve)
  15. My mechanic has just done a bunch of repairs to my 2003 C5 2.0 Hdi, but ran into trouble trying to replace the handbrake cables. He tells me that there is some sort of sleeve where the cable has to be fed through under the car, but he simply cannot free the old one to feed the new one in. Anyone had a similar problem? He says he's tried everything he can think of, but it just won't budge... TIA
