  1. (whoops, sorry about that. I seem to have posted accidentally before I'd finished!) It had 83000 miles, and a full year of mot. How much do you think it went for? £1375!! A five and a half year old Berlingo has to be worth more than that, even if it is in polar white! Ebay item number, by the way, is : 200086511574
  2. I'm not thinking of selling (or of buying, for that matter), but I did watch a recent Berlingo Auction on ebay . CITROEN Berlingo Forte (5-door) (51 plate) HISTORY / NO RESERVE AUCTION / FULL MOT Date of first registration 01.09.2001 Colour Polar White Engine Size 1360cc (Petrol Injection)
  3. Good to hear of another Berlingo owner staying loyal. Keep us posted. We'll all want to know how the new one compares with the old one.
  4. FWIW, over the past 10 fills (which is about 3000 miles) my 1.6 petrol Berlingo has averaged about 39.2 mpg - mostly rural driving.
  5. 'Course you're still welcome. We Berlingo drivers are the friendliest people around. (Unless you're driving a K****o  ) Lovely car. Shame about the lion on the front of it, but you can't have everything. btw, I've heard of 'lions led by donkeys' before. Never heard of 'lions driven by donkeys'
  6. While I'm sure that the Berlingo headlights are very good  , I would like to see a little more when driving at night along country roads. So I had the idea of having driving lights fixed to the car - something like Cibie Oscars or Hella Rallyes. I can't say that I've ever seen these fixed to a Berlingo - so I wondered if it was possible to do so, and if so, where they should be attached - i.e. above or below the bumper. (I have an old shape Berlingo, by the way.) And does anyone have any comments on whether one should get Cibie Oscars or Hella Rallyes?
  7. Thanks for that. Much appreciated. One suspects that as it is basically a 10 year old design, an all new model must not be too far away.
  8. I gather that the Berlingo first appeared in 1996. I also gather that the Berlingo (Multispace) went on sale in the UK in 1998. So - my questions 1) When did the Berlingo first go on sale in France? 2) Did the van and the Multispace come out at the same time there? 3) Did the van and the Multispace come out at the same time in the UK? 4) Any idea which month in 1998 the Multispace went on sale in the UK?
  9. According to the Auto Trader website, a new shape Berlingo (actually arrived late 2002) available from about £4000. 1.9 diesel more common than the 1.4 petrol, and a bit more economical. 1.8 petrol is rarer, and pretty thirsty, I believe. Let us know how you get on.
  10. Thanks, Tronboy. Interesting. You were quick off the mark with that test. I've not even seen one yet (though I did see a VW Caddy Life in France recently!) So that's the Crampster off the shopping list - at least until they come up with the vRS version. :D
  11. Good question - and you have my sympathy. On the A9 between Perth and Inverness there is a contraflow section with a 30 mile limit at the moment. Very straight, very empty, no pedestrians within miles. Not many vehicles doing 30 or anywhere near it. Couldn't figure out why someone decided that it should be 30 mph.
  12. Actually, I know someone who bought one (a Connect Combi) - his wife was disabled. He was very pleased with it. I don't know what he paid, but I gather that it wasn't exactly cheap - possibly well over £13,000. The constabulary around our way have used them, and our local bobby thought his was pretty good.
  13. Tronboy What strikes me, looking at the prices of the Roomster compared to the Berlingo (real world prices, rather than sticker prices), is that if you consider the power of the different engines (well, the 0-60 figures give a rough guide), the Berlingo is about £3000 cheaper, engine for engine, than the equivalent Roomster. Bit of a no-brainer that, unless this Roomster is really good. I'd say the Roomster will not be taking sales from the Berlingo - it's real competitors will be things like the Picasso, the Scenic, C-Max, etc. Remember the VW Caddy Life Combi that was going to come into the UK a few years ago as a Berlingo rival. It never seemed to appear. The prices were just too high. The Roomster will be a fine car, no doubt - but not a real Berlingo rival.
  14. Didn't see that Autoexpress. Rather sorry I missed it. Did they say anything interesting about the different cars? What Car tested the Berlingo against the Doblo and the Kangoo back at the beginning of 2002. (Berlingo won)
  15. Depends how sensible you want to be. If you are feeling adventurous, get a Roomster. Then you can tell us all about it, and how it compares with a Berlingo. If you are feeling sensible, get a Honda Jazz. If you are actually sensible, just hang on to your faithful Berlingo.
  16. We still have the long thread. Scroll down to find it. Because of the peculiarities of this site, many people end up making duplicate postings. Perhaps someone could sort out this problem, combine the two threads, delete duplicate threads which have no replies, etc?
  17. Interesting thread. Personally, I think that the Which ratings are more helpful than NCAP ones - partly because Which take extra factors into account, and partly because their ratings allow one to compare cars across different categories, whereas NCAP do not. What I noticed in the Which? article is that most of the vehicles that are rated are fairly new - almost nothing from before 2000, mostly cars that have come out in the last 4 years. And of course we all know that there has been a huge improvement in crash-worthiness of vehicles in the past dozen years - as our society becomes more paranoid - sorry, I mean safety conscious - and concerned about litigation. As for the Berlingo, it is basically an old design. My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that while the 2002 facelift did improve crash-worthiness to some extent, it was largely just a facelift, and the Berlingo remains basically a 10 year old design. The new Scenic and Zafira, are, by contrast, brand new cars - like the Touran, Mazda5, etc. And me? Well, I'm driving a pre-facelift Berlingo, so I guess that by Which standards, I'm driving a real deathtrap. But then that's what my parents and grandparents always drove, and I always survived, so I don't let it worry me!
  18. With regard to 3 On ice, what makes the difference is not the car, but the driver and the tyres. Since I live a) in the frozen north and :D in a rural area, I fit winter tyres for the winter months.
  19. Never had a problem with height. All car parks I've been to are fine. OK, it's too tall to go into our garage, but what sort of eejit puts their car in their garage? And it's too tall to wash the roof easily - so I just don't bother. Never had a problem with side winds, but a friend was caught by a freak gust, and result was not good. Regarding colour, ours is silver, and I like it. Iron grey looks nice - so does Poseidon blue.
  20. So - what's the Vaneo like to drive compared to the Berlingo?
  21. 1) I notice that this forum is for the 'Citroen Multispace' - but most of us seem to talk about our 'Berlingo', rather than our 'Multispace'. (I know I certainly do.) Does anyone out there actually talk about their 'Multispace' - or their 'Berlingo Multispace'? 2) And how do YOU say 'Multispace'? Is it the British way (mull - tea - space), or the French way (mool - tea - spas) or the middle of the channel way (mull - tea - spas)? My gut feeling would have been the British way, but the salesman who sold us ours used a more Gallic way of speaking - which, since people always say Renault (Rubbish) 'es - pass' rather than 'es - pace', makes a certain amount of sense.
  22. We've had this problem too. We bought our new Berlingo in March 2002, and not long afterward (whether a few weeks, or a few months, I can't remember) the boot opened as we were driving along at about 60 mph. Since then, we have ensured that the boot was locked before driving off, and it has not happened again. We don't have central locking, by the way.
  23. <<Have you ever *driven* one of those things?>> No - what are they like? I gather that 1.9 JTD is a reasonable engine, but the other engines are pretty weedy. I have read that the car actually drives better with the weedy petrol engine than with the 1.9 JTD. <<I seriously think you've got a long wait. >> I'm a very patient man. <<There are already two competant diesel engines in the new line-up, so why should they introduce a third?>> The success of the Zafira VXR will force Citroen to think again. A couple of years down the road, we'll have the Berlingo VTR - possibly VTS. It'll be a real cult car. :D
  24. My Berlingo is early 2002 (pre-facelift). Any idea whether these scores would apply to it, or did the 2002 facelift (or some subsequent modifications made by Citroen) make a real difference to the vehicle's crash-worthiness?
