    Fuel Consumtion

It hasn't shown and faults and i've blocked it with a bolt, would the car not be better with the EGR valve cleaned and connected?

    Fuel Consumtion

Thanks for all your help, today I took the EGR pipe off and blocked it, well, what a change, alot more umph and would you believe it, it has gone from 31.4 mpg to 45.5 mpg, mind you that was at a steady 55 mph, do I now clean/replace the EGR valve or just leave it as it is?

    Fuel Consumtion

Thanks Randombloke, I spoke the an English guy with the same car as mine, he said that he got 40/45 running about and on long runs 55/60, mine stays the same no matter what I do, perhaps I should buy his car..lol Any ideas on the turbo pipe doubling in size when revved?? or how to check that the cam belt is on right??
  4. I have a 2001 C5 2.2 Exclusive est auto with 68,000 on the clock, I've just had the injectors sorted at the cost of €650 (I'm in Spain) although I think he just cleaned them and put them back in, but that's another story, the thing is, The very best fuel MPG that I've ever had is 31.4 mpg, the car has been de-fapped and starts and drives well, however, it is the only C5 I've ever had/driven, Looking under the bonnet today I noticed that when revved up the turbo pipe doubles in size, is this normal? I like the car and it all works except for the rear window not opening which isn't a problem, any ideas what my next move should be re the mpg please. I would add that when I bought the car I did so long distance, I am in Spain So a friend in the UK bought the car, now the ad said how good the car was on fuel, well, before I picked the car up in the UK I had it serviced, and in doing so had a new cambelt fitted, if the new belt wasn't fitted exactly right, would that affect the fuel mpg and if so how can I check? Thanks........Jeff

  6. And a thank you to johndouglas, not checked it yet but the locking ring round the pump was not fully tight, It's good to talk.
  7. Managed to buy a new sender unit at the cost of £27+ now all I have to do is fit it, had a quick look by popping off the mirror but need to go a lot deeper in, can anyone explain what I need to take off to get at it please. Many thanks, Jeff.
  8. Thanks Bry, The car has driven down to southern Spain without missing a beat, loaded to the hilt and towing a caravan, also loaded up (including bags of cooking apples) I now need to look at the few problems I know about before making the final decision about changing it over to Spanish plates. Thanks again, Jeff.
  9. Just thought I'd check the headlamp washers on my 2001 C5 2.2 HDI Exclusive estate auto 64,000 miles and guess what, one is missing, one came out to wash but on the nearside all I got was a puddle of washer fluid, I then found that the bumper cap had been fixed in place by tape, does anyone know if it is much of a job to change and cost of a new part please. Thanks, Jeff.
  10. Thanks Paul.h, We're off to our Campsite in Spain (www.fincadelapiedra.com) within the next week or so, which means the only repair I can look at will be the fuel one, I expect It's a breather pipe come off or broken, the fuel level has gone down now so It's stopped leaking, Do you know if the outside temp sensor has anything to do with the air-con? Cheers Jeff.
  11. Hi The outside temp reading on my 2001 C5 2.2 HDI Exclusive estate auto 64,000miles only reads between 41 & 43degs, any clues to why and any ideas of a fix please, also the rear screen wash, when the switch is turned to wash the pump runs but no water at the rear window, by the way, the wiper works ok also washing the front screen is fine. Another problem, Having just bought the car it was only the second time I'd filled her up with diesel, I went to pay and on the way back to the car a guy on another pump asked if the silver estate car was mine, yes I said, he then walked me round the car and showed me the large pool of what I thought was the cheap diesel that was supposed to be in my tank, on the floor, a quick look under the car told me that the fuel was coming from the top of the tank at the front drivers side corner, again, any ideas please. Thanks in advance. Jeff. PS. THE REAR WINDOW DOESN'T OPEN/WORK, BUT THAT'S FOR ANOTHER DAY!!!
  12. Thanks johndouglas, yes I have seen the other posts but I wondered just what made the headlamps kick the light the way they do given that they have clear glass, it may just be a small shroud inside that could be modified perhaps, might be worth a trip to the breakers to see if they have a broken one to look at, after all at about €1000 each I don't fancy taking a new one apart, I was looking forward to driving the C5 down from UK, France and onto Spain given what people have said about the way they drive but this problem with xenon headlamps has rather taken the dairy off it, still, for every problem there is an answer, so I will stay positive and see what turns up, there's never a Roman around when you need one, bet they would have found a way round it. Regards, Jeff.
  13. Hi One and all This is my first time on this forum so please be gentle with me. I have just bought a 2001 C5 2.2 exclusive estate auto 64,000 miles and will soon be flying to the UK to pick it up and drive it back to Spain (Malaga) where I live, now from what i've read on this forum the xenon headlamps won't pass the ITV test when I change it over to Spanish plates and judging by the cost of new ones, well enough said. My question is, has anyone ever taken the light's apart to see if they can be altered or perhaps it would be cheaper and easier to change them to halogen lamps, has anyone tried this and if so could the explain how it's done please. Regards, Jeff.
