Hello. First of all welcome to the forum. The trouble you're having with your heater happens quite often on older C5s. What may have happened is that the output shaft of the air temperature control geared motor and the plastic shaft of the control flap has broken. When you've got a minute tell us about the defap and the remap. Changes to performance, fuel consumption, insurance premium increase .. and costs. I'd be interested to see how long the DMF will last at this power/torque level, or how long the transmission will last if no DMF. The rattle/knock could be the anti roll bar coupling. Thanks for the welcome! :) Hes changed his DMF and Clutch at 130K and its now on 158K, he firstly had Kingquick Tuning Box on it from 80K and it ran well, gave the best of both world power and economy. It still feels like new, much more refined and a much quieter engine than a similar aged 1.9 TDI Bora, we think this is down to it only ever being run on Fully Synth Mobil1 Oil. The anti-pollution warning came up on the computer a month ago and hooked it up to his Lexia ECU reader and found his fap was gone. He then went to a remapping company who offered to defap and remap it for £450. The tuning box was giving out around 150bhp and ran 78k without a hitch, it would give around 30-40mpg urban. Improvements of the car being defapped and the remapped are the turbo is spooling up much better, smoother pickup, 6th gear at 30mph is now possible, engine runs quieter and power and torque is available throughout the rev range, it's also running a K&N air filter and that's improved thing a little. It's returning around 5 mpg more, regularly seeing 42mpg around town. There was a lot of black smoke with heavy acceleration and is one of the reasons he had the tuner tweak the map for less power. Now there's a little black smoke which is to be expected from a defapped car. He's not to worried about the DMF/Clutch, he knows how to take car of it, doesn't boot it in a high gear and he replaced the gearbox fluid every 80k and boy does it make a difference, the tuner made sure there wasn't any sharp peaks. It's now producing 170BHP and 395NM of torque. Regarding the knocking we think its coming from the steering arm or inner track rod end does this sound familiar? He said that he had the same problem on his BX (DTRTD) ;) We have found a company who will sort the heater flaps out for £150 is this reasonable? They recondition our current one with genuine parts, based in Rotherham.
