  1. Regarding the squeeling brakes. If they are the front, check ther wear on the discs. I had tropuble on my car when it had only done less than 30,000 miles and it turned out to be worn discs. Still have squeel on the back occasionally first thing in the morning when I drive it at slow speeds and brake. Mild corrosion in the drums? Who knows. I will not be changing the drums though due to cost and it doesnt make any difference to braking efficiency.
  2. Multispace 04 Reg, 1.9 Forte. If I leave either my front or rear wipers switched on when I turn the engine off, when I restart the engine later or the next day I have to reset the wipers as they do not come on despite being in the on position. Is this standard, (part of the quirky nature of the wireing system) or a sign of impending problems. :)
  3. As far as I know service goes not only on mileage but also on time so if you are not doing enough miles it will automatically reduce the miles indicator. Therefore of you are not averaging enough miles, 10,0000, within a year it will automatically count down as a percentage every day or whatever. This one got me until I realised what was happening because I originally thought there was no way I was doing the miles that it indicated.
  4. First off, check that the tyre pressures are correct and look to see if there is any uneven wear on the tyres. If the tyres or a tyre have been changed on a 20,000 mile vehicle I would be suspicious of that. I would also maybe consider if the vehicle could have had repairs and the steering geometry is out. When I bought my vehicle I asked for the history of it showing exactly what had been done in the past including warranty work. Let us all know what you find out. What you still have to consider is that you are, in essence, driving a van and also it is far taller than a car and so does not handle like one. I like the occasional spirited drive. Not now in my Berlingo though. I have to wait until I drive my Skoda Estelle Classic Trials car.
  5. I have previously reported my problems with squeeling brakes and variable braking effect. Having applied copper slip to the back of the pads for the second time with a short term improvement until the squeel came back I recently changed the discs and pads. My vehicle has only done 29,000 miles. The improvement has been teriffic. No squeel and non variable braking effect. The discs and pads from a local factor were around £54 but remember that you will need a Torx 55 bit to take the calipers off. That cost me about £5. Why Mr Citroen could not fit hex head bolts God only knows. The wear at the outer and inner edge of the discs was more than the middle, about 2.5mm at the edges and 1.75 in the middle thereby causing a curved face to the disc if that means anything to the more technically minded. The Haynes manual advises replacement if the wear is 2mm.
  6. Turns out it was a loose hose going to the air filter housing. Certainly made a racket. Kind of suggests that the garage was at fault as they replaced that housing as a Warranty repair before. Mmmmmm!
  7. My 04 Forte 1.9 is going in to get a Warranty Check on Monday for a vibration from the front end that is evident on start up and forward running but goes on the overrun and when I am in reverse. Once before, shortly after I got the vehicle in April, it went in for some checks and they replaced some sort of intake housing on the front end they said was broken and making a noise. (Didnt go in for that in the first place though) Anyone else had this kind of problem as the Service Manager appeared to know what it may be which made me think it wasnt an unusual problem for them. Quick tip. The offside side of my drivers seat upholstery keeps coming away. There is a thin plastic insert set into the lower edge of the material which is supposed to be clipped under a strip on the side of the seat but it keeps unclipping. I got a bit of split, fluted trunking used for protecting vehicle wireing and slipped it over the edge of the upholstery and the strip. Result? No further problems.
  8. My 04 Multispace with 26000 on the clock has had brake squeak since I got it 7 months ago. I took the front pads out, cleaned everything up and copper slipped the back of the pads. I have just cleaned out the back brakes and removed the slight corrosion lip around the edge of the drums. The back ones are OK now but the front still squeal. I have again removed the wheels and checked the discs. They have quite a lip on the outer edge due to wear and towards the centre of the disc it is worn on a slight angle due to wear. I think I need to replace the discs and pads. Is this usual after only 26,000 miles? Any thoughts? If I take it to the local dealer they will charge me an arm and a leg to even look at them let alone do the hob. If I replace the discs, are there any aftermarket discs that are good but cost less than the colossal price Mr Citroen will undoubtedly charge me?
  9. No, thats £70 and £60 each unit, not each pair, plus VAT meaning a tad off £300 for the lot!!! Whilst I like my Berlingo that is a step too far to justify to 'er indoors for what is basically cosmetic. That kind of price is why we are buying so much stuff from China these days and unfortunately a lot of it is good.
  10. At £70 plus each for the front grills from Peugeot and near on £60 each for the rears, plus the dreaded VAT of course, I have understandably shelved that idea. However the Peugeot parts man did suggest that I slope out at the dead of night armed with a battery drill. I wonder what for? Perhaps an opening for an after market manufacturer somewhere?
  11. I have seen a Multispace with front and rear light protectors, rather like some of the 4x4 boys use, fitted. My Citroen dealer says they are not listed so they must be after-market manufactured. Does anyone know who makes them?

    Brakes

I know that both the front and back brakes had a tendency to squeaI. I removed the front pads, cleaned them up and applied copper slip to the back of the pads. Improved them a bit but I havnt done the back shoes yet. Interested in the comment about the front pads binding in the off position. Perhaps working them in and out with some WD40 around the piston may help? I shall try when I have a mo.
  13. I have read in the past of critiscism of the Berlingos braking system. I have an 04 1.9 Forte and feel that the braking feel is not consistent. At times it feels when I am braking that the brakes are not working quite as effectively and I have to push the peddle harder, a bit off-putting when you are in traffic. Has anyone else experienced this?
  14. Took my 04 1.9 Forte for a Warranty check as the interior light, passenger mirror, 12v power socket and ciggy lighter had stopped working. Rang up and they said it was a blown fuse that I probably wouldnt have been able to find myself. Not a warranty item but said it wouldnt cost much. £35:48 sounds a little more than "wouldnt cost much" to me. Apparently they checked the wiring and the BSI (?) and found it was Fuse No 22. If it goes again they will cover it on Warranty. I hope it does so I can try and get my thirty two quid back!!! ;)
  15. Listen TronX old son, everyone to their own. Some people actually like those "shite old arse engined Skodas". If you care to think about it, our Berliong's are similar to the likes of the old Skodas in that they do the job abequately, with no frills attached, and at the price we can afford. If we had much more to spend, undoubtedly many of us would by something else Care to mention what cars you like and put your neck on the line? If you knew your facts you would know, of course, that Estelles were once refered to, within the motoring press, as the poor mans Porsche. Much as I like my Berlingo, I have to say that I get more fun out of my trialling Skoda than any other car I have ever owned. Say no more Squire.
  16. Yup. Try ebay. Got mine there for about six quid all in and although it is probably not as snazzy as Citroens I bet it is cheaper and it does the job fine.

    Abs

Thanks DickieG. That means my car must be 'Unsafe'!!!!!! ????? :D

    Abs

How do I tell if my 04 1.9D is fitted with ABS?
  19. Another question for the experts. 04 1.9D with 23000 on the clock. Changing from second to first at slow speed, sometimes the box baulks party or the gearstick needs a good shove to engage. I am not sure if the gear change between the other gears is as smooth as it should be at times but the box never crunches. The dealer has tried to tell me that due to the size of the first gear cogs I may experience some baulking on 2 to 1 down changes. Sounds a bit iffy to me as modern boxes with synchro should cope with down changes easily and smoothly. They are going to check it but I though I would ask others if they have experienced anything like this? Still like the car though. :D
  20. The front brakes on my 04 model squeal like mad so I need to remove the pads, clean everything up and apply copper slip. I have had a front wheel off but am not totally clear as to how to remove the calipers to do the work. The calipers are different to those I have come across in the past. Mind you, I have never had a vehicle this new!!! Do the calipers have to come off completely or can I remove the pads on their own? I have ordered a Haynes but that may take a few days and would like to do the job now. Any help would be appreciated. There was a question about skidding recently on this site. I do tend to find I have to be fairly delicate with the brakes as they can snatch or overbrake a bit if I feel that I am not getting enough braking and then press slightly harder. May be to do with the squealing? Or is it that the brakes are basically set up for a commercial vehicle and therefore for heavy loads?
  21. Just to keep things ticking over I have another question for all you Multispace experts. Are squealing brakes a recognised Berlingo problem? Difficult to tell exactly but I think it is happening both front and rear. Looks like I may have to do it myself as it isnt a Warranty Issue and i am not taking the car on a 200 mile round trip to the dealer so is there anything to remember? I intend to remove the pads, clean up the back of them and the pistons and coat with copper slip. Are the rear drums easy to remove? Thanks in anticipation.
  22. Just over 1 week into ownership of my 04 1.9D Forte, 250 miles and I love it. :) Although I live in Carlsile I bought it in Scotland so took it to my local dealer for some warranty work. Right hand indicator stopped working so a new Com 2000 was fitted. Sounds familiar does it? Vibration from front end when accelerating so they fitted an Air Intake PI, whatever that is. A bit dischuffed as, on returning home after collection, I found that the larger rear seat wouldnt tilt forward as one of the locking cords was broken despite the Used Vehicle Inspection report saying"All seats, check stability and adjustment" was ticked off. Charged £17:74 for fitting two new cords. For a £6000 plus motor I feel justified in sending the bill to the original dealer. Salesman didnt even know about the cubby hole under the drivers seat so promised to send the manuals and Service History etc on to me when I asked about them. Only found where they were through this forum. Once again, Inspection Report said they were all present so he should have known that. I also belong to the Skoda Owners Club Forum as I Classic Trial a Skoda Estelle. They have a 'Rate a Dealer' section on their site. Any one think that would be worthwhile on this site?
