I recently took possession of my daughters 07 plated C2, a very nice little car 40,000 miles on the clock and with absolutely no history of any type of breakdown. Took it out for a short run for the first time , it ran beautifully for half an hour then suddenly cut out. I spent another half an hour looking for problem before calling the rescue service who spent an hour trying various things before admitting defeat and towing me home. Next day together with a few friends we tried to find the fault, no joy so towed it to my local garage. The outcome was that they found water on the front ecu connector, something that I did not think of. They said that there no way water could get in via rain or road water but that possibly water was syphoning up either the water temp sensor cables or water washer pump wiring , I must admit I have never heard of this before until reading some of your forum articles. The connector was dried out and the temp sensor replaced as a precaution, drove home happy with no problems. However, next day started car and got similar problem orange light on etc etc. Went to connector and cleaned plug and socket with Electrolube contact cleaner, replaced connector and cleared down fault as I have read from several forums. I started the car first time, I have been using the car for a week with no further problems. Trying to think why car had stopped and it suddenly occurred to me I had washed the car using a hose pipe the night before the problem first started. I know that the battery cover protects the connectors of the ecu but it is in two halves and has a finger grip cut out at the centre, I am now fairly convinced that I caused the problem myself with over use of the hose as it would be quite possible to spray water horiziontally along the line of the top of the wing and bonnet allowing water down onto the top of the battery cover and into the cover via the finger grip. I am sorry that is is a long winded account of my little problem but it may just help others. I may be wrong but I will be very careful washing the car in future.
