  1. Maybe kfk will know the answer to this but I understood that pads now last a lot less than they used to due to replacement of asbestos. As for disks I heard that if you are the sort who uses your brakes heavily then sits on the pedal at junctions etc. then the disks don't cool very evenly and so warp and this might reduce their life. I tend to console myself with this thought as I sit dazzled behind another idiot - so many !!. Please say it's true.

    C4 Meet

I will try to make the Saturday. It's only over th'hill after all. :o
  3. Re. poor ride. Have you considered the rear shocks ? This is a known issue with some cars as mentioned on the French planet citroen forum a while back. Some (particularly rear) make groaning noises at low speed (<5mph). The standard "fix" for this is to grease them which did infact stop noise on mine. However at 12 month service I mentioned rear knocking noise, thinking it was the exhaust, and they changed the rear shocks. The ride / handling which i had always been a bit disappointed with cf. old shape focus has been very significantly improved. The knocking noise is still there !
  4. Would love to know about the mirror selection switch light. Mine doesn't. dealer said they don't. Seems odd to me.
  5. Just out of interest, re. the switches on the driver's side (4 electric windows, child safety deactivation, electric mirrors "joystick"and mirror selection) should all these switches illuminate ? rather bizarrely mine all do except the mirror selection. I would have thought the whole pannel would be illuminated from one sources so I don't understand... Yep the dealer said "they're all like that".
  6. French Forum This is the forum I lurked on. The google translations about problems are hilarious. Well I think so.
  7. Hello. Just picked up C4 after some warranty work post 13 month/ 12500 mile service (diesel) including rear engine mount which was picked up by dealer and a few rattles. One knocking noise at rear I had put down to the exhaust or rear seat mechanism but they diagnosed rear shocks. When new these groaned loudly at < 5mph and the supplying dealer greased them which cured the noise so i thought that was the end of it. I have always been a bit disappointed with the ride quality compared with my old style focus. Now with new rear shock the ride has been virtually transformed :D. No more crashing in to pot holes or avoiding very poor road surfaces. If anyone else thinks the ride is very harsh I suggest you get the shocks looked at. They are a known issue if you look at some French C4 sites.
  8. I have this weekend had both rear Michelin Pilot Exalto 205/50 ZR17's on my 1.6HDi VTR+ replaced at Kwik Fit with Pirelli P6000's due to one puncture at rear. They claimed they couldn't mix the Michelin with another tyre and didn't have one in stock (£160 to order). So I opted for 2 P6000's at £250!! and took the good Michelin home. Presumably balancing isn't so much of an issue on the rear but I haven't noticed anything unusual so far (only done ~10 miles). Slightly off topic and too late for us. Would anyone like to suggest alternative tyres particularly to improve ride - I knew 17" wheels were just for the pose value also my rear shocks are due for replacement under warranty if that is relevant.
  9. I have no problems with recalls - these things happen but my understanding is that the C4 isn't an "all new" car. The original 307 was, and the C4 and revised 307 are (hopefully) much improved versions. At least that's my understanding.
  10. I had an old style focus 1.6 petrol 5dr which was excellent. By the time I was ready to change, the new FOCUS was out. I could not believe the awful styling of the new model. I fancied a diesel primarily for the torque and the 1.6HDi Ford/PSA engine has good reputation. I considered getting a nearly new run out focus (but old 1.8 engine) but C4 looked the part and was almost the same size as old focus. I don't think my C4 goes round bends quite as well as my old focus and the ride isn't as good either. This might be partly due to 17" alloys on my VTR+. I also miss the Quickclear windsceen. Otherwise I have no regrets - I still get people looking which is nice.
  11. Thanks for that. I was convinced there would be some kind of mileage +/- limit somewhere because I remember Ford quoted them for my old focus - in the service book I think.
  12. Hello. A newbie here although I've been lurking for a while. My C4 is coming up to 12 months from new. I know I don't need to get it serviced until 12500miles or 2 years (HDi) but I've done nearly 11000 and am off on my jollys to Scotland soon. I can't find any reference to the leeway on the 12500miles before I break the warranty conditions. Is it 12501 and you've had it anyone know ? Thanks and all the best.
